First of all, in the good news column, the government has decided to stop wasting our tax money and have dropped all charges against the “SHOT Show 22” from 2010. I do feel sorry for the 3 that pled guilty instead of fighting in court. I am sure they felt it was hopeless to fight the government and decided it was the best decision in light of a very bad situation. I wish them the best of luck.
Link here In the bad news column, I hope you have stocked up all the ammo you intend to shoot for the next couple of years. Prices are climbing and some calibers are already becoming scarce with the elections still more than 7 months away. The more military looking rifles and associated parts are also becoming harder to find with build times increasing. Do NOT get caught in the same tidal wave that caught people 4 years ago during the last elections. You are not going to be able to buy some types of ammo for any price in the very near future-if you do not buy it now you may not be able to buy it for the next 18-24 months. Brownells reports that manufacturers already cannot keep up with production schedules for .223/5.56 NATO ammo, and that holds with my experiences in looking for 62-75 grain brass cased ammo. Friends also are reporting that the local Walmart has raised their prices on .22LR ammo by 30% this week, which matches reports from others on the gun boards. Pistol calibers will also be hard to find soon... Forget gold, ammo is a better investment for shooters. Right now mags are cheap, but it would not surprise me if those start climbing in price, too. Consider yourself warned and buy if you haven't already been doing so, before the prices really go up.
And finally, a couple of questions: Does anyone have any experience with the Wolf Match ammo (in particular, .223)? I find the steel cased Wolf to be fine in my AK’s but I do not shoot steel cased ammo in my AR’s. But, I am curious to the Wolf brass match ammo quality since their .22LR is absolutely outstanding. The second question is, has anyone has shot the steel cased Hornady ammo? (Again, specifically .223?) I would prefer to shoot Federal, Winchester, Black Hills, Remington, and even PMC but the Soviet stuff seems to be the only stuff currently available in most places and it is only going to get worse...
