Writing meme.

I almost never post memes, but I love talking about writing and won't be doing much actual writing for the next couple of weeks, so if anyone wants to ask this'll keep my hand in, at least a little...

Man... all these questions are good! I would read one and say, "Yes! That's the one I want to ask Muse!" and then I'd read another and say, "No, that's the one I want!" and then it just kept happening. LOL. I hope you get asked every one of these because I'd be fascinated and interested to know your responses.

If I have to pick only a small few, how about these? B, M, S (because given your name it HAD to be asked!) and AB.

I'm pretty sure I could answer all of them happily! It's a good list! I considered just answering them all, because I never expect people to ask me questions, but that seemed a bit self-indulgent. So thank you for asking! Feel free to ask whatever ones you'd like!

B. Is there a trope you've yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

I'm funny about tropes. I love tropes on the whole, but I didn't write any trope fic until the past couple of years, and I pretty much only write them as trope inversion ("Extenuating Circumstances" in Teen Wolf and "Twenty Tropes for Real Boys" in Glee). Because what's more fun than taking a trope than turning it on its head, right? :D That's how my mind works, anyway ( ... )

I love the idea of taking a trope and turning it on its head. It's been said that there are no new stories, only new ways of telling the same story. So to take a cliché / trope and twist it into something different is a terrific way to do it, I think. It shows you're looking at something from a different angle, appreciating a different view of it. All sorts of unique stories can come when a writer does that. Very cool ( ... )

Speaking of which, are there certain types of stories that you would never write, or even never read? I think everyone has their own lines they won't cross. Though I've also found that some things I thought I'd never read, I've ended up finding exceptions to the rule. Has that been the case for you as well?

I try never to say never. I prefer not to read mpreg, fics with unhappy endings and/or death, baby!fic, and non-con, but when it's an author or reccer I trust I will often try fic types I wouldn't normally read and see what I think about them. I try to keep an open mind, and I'm always curious about why a trope that doesn't work for me works for someone else. So I like to check out what are likely good versions of the trope to try to understand. There are always exceptions to every rule for me. :)

I keep saying, now that I'm done with school, I'd like to get back to writing. This is a good reminder that I should stop saying that and instead start doing that.Yes! Do it! Just sit down and do it. It doesn't have to be "good ( ... )

G. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you've written and explain why you're proud of it.

Oh, crap. I've written millions of words over hundreds of fics. I don't know! It's usually the dialogue that I remember. I'm the last person to ask about my prose. Hrm.

So I'll go with the opening to Near Misses:

Life is a series of happy accidents and near misses ( ... )

Ooh, this looks fun. So my picks are: J, AJ, AL.

J. Which fic has been the easiest to write?

It's hard to answer precisely without talking about what "easiest" means, but off of the top of my head "24/7/365" stands out for the way it rolled off my fingers in a rush in a single day in which I was incredibly busy with other things but still wrote those many thousands of words. It just poured out of me. In part it was the subject matter, which I'd been thinking about for a while, and in even larger part it was the format, in which I wrote a bunch of quite short sections, so I could sit down and bang one out in a couple of minutes out of order and then go on with my day.

AJ. Which is your favorite site to post fic?Livejournal. I like talking to people and hearing specifically what they respond to, and so LJ's commenting system gives me the most chance of getting that kind of specific feedback. Also, I like using my different icons to respond. :) Unfortunately, it's rather a ghost town here these days, so the AO3 is my second choice, because I do get kudos and sometimes comments ( ... )

Oh gosh, the feedback mechanisms on Tumblr are atrocious if you want to have coherent discussions with more than one person at once. I too lament the exodus of Glee peeps from LJ if only for the lack of threaded comments in my Internet day-to-day lately. As a longtime LJ-er, I thank you for keeping active on here.

Oh, threaded comments. *dreamy sigh* I love them so much. Tumblr is made for talking at people, not talking to them, and as a medium it drives me bananas. I'm so glad people like you remain here on LJ! Thanks for giving me a reason to remain active!

It's great bunch of questions, I think! Thanks for asking!

L. Is there an episode section of canon above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?In Glee, yes, for sure. "Prom Queen" (2x20) inspires me greatly; it's a pivotal episode in the couple-hood of Kurt and Blaine as well as a really fundamental look at Kurt Hummel as a person. It's one of those episodes that informs the characters for me even more than three years later ( ... )

X. Have you ever deleted one of your published fics?

Nope. I have a personal rule that if I post a fanfic it's there for good. Otherwise I'd delete pretty much anything I ever wrote, including the fic I just quoted. :D I am not a fan of my writing and hate the vast majority of it with some regularity, so my rule is that I post it and it stays. I put all of my back catalogue of fic on the AO3 for the same reason; it's not my choice about what people might like to read of it. I wrote it, and it's there.

You said I could ask more if I wanted, so... *GRIN*

C, H, I, N, T, AC, AH, and AI.

Is that too many? I told you, if I could ask you all the letters I would! Because I am interested in your answers for them! :D

(Seriously though, if it's too many, you don't have to answer them all. Pick whatever you like.)

(Okay, so I'm going to answer one or two at a time, since my computer time is so short this week, but I love talking about this stuff!)

C. Is there a trope you wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole?I try not to work in absolutes, but Mpreg is the obvious answer for me. I really have issues around mpreg and have only read one fic with it that truly worked for me; it was a Teen Wolf fic where it was a horror story, not the sweet and cuddly tone the tripe usually takes. I can't imagine writing it ( ... )
