Jim had kept quiet over the weekend. It wasn't that he didn't want to meet new people, he just didn't want to have to get introduced to all of those names en masse. Yes, it was a French word. He was taking a French class this semester. This was his introduction to foreign languages.
Yeah, he was pretty much screwed with that.

Jim was, in theory, studying for his finals on Friday.
In reality he was trying to get his girlfriend who was still a puppy to eat his notes so he would have an excuse not to. He figured that she might not be entirely happy about it later, but come on, it would be a great story to share.

Jim sat. And waited. And tried not to be nervous but failed miserably at that. Then he lit the candles Pam had requested, which was probably not the best thing to do while being nervous. But at least he didn't set anything on fire. That had to be a good omen.
He then continued to wait. Clearly it was an exciting night so far.

Jim was getting used to Tuesday nights. He tried to make it look like he wasn't expecting Pam to come over by sitting at his computer, reading ESPN.com, and looking over to the door to see if somebody was knocking every time he heard a sound. Because reading about the Patriots was what made people dorky and giddy. Really.

Jim had just gotten back into town today. He loved his family, he really did, but he was glad to be back here. Part of that was the girlfriend that he was expecting to visit tonight, but another part of it was that his family was very hard to prank after all these years. It got annoying. Jim's memory of the past couple days was a bit hazy (he had a strange feeling that the name 'Dwight' would haunt him forever, for example), but he knew that it wasn't good. What he and Pam went through in their future states was just plain unpleasant and he was just going to mope about it for a while. Alone. In the dark.
