I haven't been doing much during autumn break. There were of course lessons to prepare, but I mainly just hung out with friends or stayed at home. On the other hand, I did enroll myself in a fitness programme and did some volunteer work at the home for the elderly. Unbelievable but true: I have a job. Well, temporarily, and only part time (70%), but a job nevertheless! Even though I have repeatedly stated that I didn't want to do any teaching, I find myself teaching Dutch to college students who are trained to be teachers in elementary schools from the beginning of November until Christmas. I'm a bit ( Read more... )

Being unemployed has its perks. For example, I've watched two brilliant films today.

First, there's Hairspray. Totally feel good, optimistic, bright-coloured and brilliant cast. John Travolta is scarily realistic as a woman, Nikki Blonsky makes you smile instantly, as does Amanda Bynes and Zac Effron is actually likeable. In the Highschool trilogy ( Read more... )

While in South Africa I bought a few books in Hermanus, in a bookshop that was called Hemingway's. One was a collection of poems of Auden, whose poems I love even if they are a bit tricky and seemingly nonsensical at times. But I'm even more proud of the other book I bought, which is called One Hundred Great Books in Haiku. Since Wednesday morning I am back on Belgian soil. The trip was fantastic, as was to be expected. I'm planning to report on it as soon as I have got enough pictures from me and my friends to accompany my tales. I think that will be somewhere next week.

Another quick post before my online time runs out.

Since my last post I have done a tough but rewarding hike, encountered some snakes during a relaxing walk (which wasn't so relaxing afterwards), saw the most beautiful beaches and met a few friends along the way, three Germans as a matter of fact.
