Hey, teacher

I haven't been doing much during autumn break. There were of course lessons to prepare, but I mainly just hung out with friends or stayed at home. On the other hand, I did enroll myself in a fitness programme and did some volunteer work at the home for the elderly. I used to work there during the summer holidays and they always needed lots of help with feeding all the old people who can't lift their forks etc. And since I'll be living back at home for at least another two months, I figured it wouldn't kill me to help out once in a while. Plus I'm building up some good karma. So it wasn't a total waste of autumn break after all.  And then I nearly forget to mention the gay dance party tijsmans and I went to, which was fun and all, but somehow the general atmosphere was a bit off-key. Apart from that I really enjoyed myself. And two guys even complimented me on the dress I was wearing. So hurray for gays!

Incidentally, yesterday was my first day at work. I think it went fairly okay under the circumstances, which were teaching Dutch grammar for three hours to a group of twenty-seven eighteen-year-olds. It's a particular boring part of our grammar, dividing sentences in clauses, thinking about subjects, verbs, objects and so on, so my students weren't really impressed. And there's always a guy who, at the end of the class, can ask you very stupidly: "Oh, so you mean that -uhm- when that part's obligatorily, that means it's an object?" after you have explained that part about a hundred times before during the two previous hours. dfkjsdfdfjdkfkjfkkkgggggggggggggg!

And tonight I'm going to audition for a musical in Leuven. Apparently, it's an adaption of the ugly duckling theme and the cast will consist entirely of young people. I had to learn this stupid song from the musical The Wiz, As Soon As I Get Home, but then translated into Dutch so it sounds très corny. Ah well, we'll see. Show me some jazz hands!
