Sawyer was kind of amused by the recent chaos, to tell the truth. Granted if any of his stuff had been touched he would have been out for blood but as it was he got to sit back, take it all in, and laugh. It wasn't how he would have done a string of robberies at all, but hell that didn't mean he couldn't admire the thief's work.

At the moment he was leaning against the wall of his shop, smoking a cigarette and people watching. When the kid in the bright orange came hurrying past he almost ignored him, until he caught sight of his face. The con man had never been introduced to Jing, but he'd seen him at that meeting he'd held awhile back to organize a council. Well well, looks like he had found the thief.

"Well hey there Shortround." He called, a good natured smirk crawling across his face. "Didn't think you'd be wantin' to show your face 'round here so soon. Mob right behind you then?"

Jing stopped and turned to regard the man who'd addressed him; he didn't know what name to put to the face, but the distinct drawl he'd heard before over the messengers from time to time.

"Actually," the thief said slyly, "for a lot of big talk there doesn't seem to be anyone planning to step up. Besides... there's only two reasons for thieves to hide after a heist. They're either ashamed or they messed it up. I don't fall into either of those categories."

Sawyer gave him a look that was part amusement, part despair and shook his head, still smirking. Taking another drag from the cigarette he replied, "Forgot to mention the right answer, which was bein' smart. Take the money and run, amigo. Standin' 'round get you caught."

"Yeah," Jing said dryly, "I'll just get myself a horse and ride off into the sunset -- all of 100 feet, until I hit the wall. Good plan, friend."

Saioh had fallen into the habit of taking daily walks. Taking the butterfly for a walk, was how he would have explained it if anyone had asked him... but now there was no more butterfly, and his room felt too empty and lifeless without out, so he walked out of a need to be near other people. He lingered a moment near the lake, looking thoughtfully out at the water and musing gloomily about Econtra's way of giving him things only to take them away again. Some days it was very hard to just sit back and accept Fate.

Jing had moved from the city part of the compound to the park, figuring there would be less people here. But there were a few people here and there, and Jing espied Saioh as being someone he recognized; and also being someone he'd recently visited.

Perhaps he could've just left, as the young man faced away from him and probably hadn't even noticed his presence yet. But he had a part of play, and to play it believably he needed to... basically antagonize as many people as possible.

"It's a shame you can't just catch another one, isn't it?"

Saioh's eyes flashed as he turned to face the newcomer.

"Catching another one would do me no good," he answered quietly. "Living things are irreplaceable."

"That wasn't a living thing," Jing smirked. "I know where you got it from, after all."

Asuka had noticed the post stating who had performed the thefts, but the name 'Jing' meant virtually nothing to her. She wouldn't have known who he was from any other person around Econtra. Not that she wouldn't have liked to have had a little bit of a chat, once she knew who he was. Destroying her mother's red scarf ranked as something that could, and did, get her very angry.

She had the remains of the scarf near her where she could see them, but most of her attention was on the photo album in her lap. It had been with her when she'd been brought here, and she kept it very close and very safe. She was quite glad that it hadn't been the target of the thief's attack.

A sudden gust of wind grabbed some of the scraps and sent them soaring away, and Asuka sighed in annoyance, put the album to the side, and went to grab them before they got lost or were found by other people, like that young man in the orange coat she saw walking near.

Jing stopped when something blew across his path, and he bent down to pick it up, his typical helpful nature overriding the rememberance that he was supposed to be "heartless" at them moment. Then, with both the female figure coming towards him and the recognized material he held, he remembered and put a cold smile on his face.

"Well well," he said as she strode into hearing range. "This looks familiar."

Hearing that, she blinked a little in surprise. She knew that she didn't know him, and didn't think that he knew her, as far as she was aware. But it didn't take her more than a second to figure out what he had to mean.

"Let me guess. You're Jing."

Jing sketched a mocking bow. "Give the lady a prize."

Atem normally loved sitting on the fountain's edge, playing with the water. It was one of her favourite places in all of Neocontra, but today, all she could do was sit and stare at the melted pieces of gold she held in her lap. The God Plushies were in attendance, as always, chirping worriedly as they looked at their mistress. Toshi's disappearance coming so soon on the heels of the "destruction" of her engagement ring had hit hard, and the animated gods hoped something would cheer Atem up. It was bad enough sleeping in a cold room at night without something else going wrong.

Jing actually wasn't aware that Toshi had disappeared; he'd been less attentive to the messengers in the last few days while trying to plan the very heists he was now infamous for. So even though he was trying to pull off a cold nonchalance, he really didn't know the effect of his words when he tossed out casually,

"Just ask him to get you a new one."

That, naturally, had the wrong effect, and Atem lifted her head to glare at Jing, cold hatred in her eyes. "You have a hell of a nerve, showing your twisted face around here," she said, her voice as cold as her eyes. Putting the fragments in her pocket, she stood, her face so hard and cold it seemed transformed. "I would, but since he disappeared only days after your stunt, that's kinda impossible, dont'cha think?"

It was a pretty safe bet to say that Jing was two seconds away from being on the receiving end of a punch to the jaw.

(OOC: Permission to smack Jing in the mouth? XD)

"This place is practically mine by now anyway," Jing shrugged. "Didn't you hear? I'm in charge of the council. Because I'm very trustworthy and honourable," he said slyly.

But a bit of the acted cockiness did fade out when Atem revealed Toshi's disappearance. He really hadn't heard and, although he certainly wouldn't admit it when he was playing the bad guy, he would miss the white-haired teen as his friend.

"I didn't know," he said, perhaps the only truthful thing he'd say in the conversation.

[OOC: Permission, but bad!Jing will probably not just stand there and take it this time. :) Wouldn't be playing his part if he did.]

The Lake, before or after Saioh's thread boundtowater November 15 2008, 01:13:27 UTC
Princess Sailor Mercury kicked one last ice figure into a tree, watching it shatter. She shook ice off Mariner Blade, the sword making splashing sounds. Sighing a bit, the ice and water senshi rolled her head, rubbing the back of her neck. She was stressed; she thought perhaps the spar with her creations would relieve it, and it did... Just not enough. "Thank you," she murmured softly to the ice, allowing it to melt and soak into the earth to rejoin what she'd drawn it from.

"So you're the replacement," Jing said, crossing his arms as he watched this Mercury finish the last of... whatever she'd been doing. "How's it feel to not measure up?"

Mercury raised a brow at the comment, but didn't look at them. "Come again?" she asked simply, shimmering as she changed back to her princess dress.

"To the one of you that left," Jing clarified solicitously. "Or do you not feel the hundred pair of eyes on you, comparing and judging and calculating?"
