Princess Sailor Mercury kicked one last ice figure into a tree, watching it shatter. She shook ice off Mariner Blade, the sword making splashing sounds. Sighing a bit, the ice and water senshi rolled her head, rubbing the back of her neck. She was stressed; she thought perhaps the spar with her creations would relieve it, and it did... Just not enough. "Thank you," she murmured softly to the ice, allowing it to melt and soak into the earth to rejoin what she'd drawn it from.

"So you're the replacement," Jing said, crossing his arms as he watched this Mercury finish the last of... whatever she'd been doing. "How's it feel to not measure up?"

Mercury raised a brow at the comment, but didn't look at them. "Come again?" she asked simply, shimmering as she changed back to her princess dress.

"To the one of you that left," Jing clarified solicitously. "Or do you not feel the hundred pair of eyes on you, comparing and judging and calculating?"

"Hardly," came the reply as Mercury turned to grin at the young man, the symbol shining on her forehead. "While it is true my twin is now gone," she continued, "I was here while she was, though for not as long of course, and therefore, I am hardly her 'replacement'. And I also have no concerns at all about 'measuring up', as you've put it."

Silently Jing admired the princess' poise and her answer. "I suppose that makes you a rarer breed than most here," he replied.

"To feel the need to be better or equal to one who merely shares your face is a rather moronic effort, in my opinion," Mercury commented, "Because that is all that is the same, I've found. My twin and I, while having the same general idea of our goals, took different approaches and different opinions to reach them." She ran a hand through her blue curls. "Sometimes, I really wonder why so many people think that the same face equals to the same mind."

"Humans as a general rule often don't know what's best for them, or if they do don't usually have the brain to go after it," Jing observed.

He thought about her words. "I don't think that's it," he said thoughtfully. "I've never had a double here, but I've known plenty who have. Even... even my best friend. I think people try to find commonalities with alternates, because it means they're more real. Otherwise... it's just a name or a face."
