I am, as of December, now a provisionally passed candidate for the MEXT scholarship.

Which means that, bar any horrible circumstances (which the consulate states that they've yet to see happen), I am going back to Kyoto. As a research student. For free. For 18-24 months. Either in April or September.

This is the unexpected (although that just shows you how blithely optimistic and downright silly I was being) downside of getting all my applications in already--I feel so accomplished that my productivity, in general, immediately plummets.
