I understand now (I think, anyway) why Miyake comes off as/is so callous.

this reminds me that when I met my prof while she was here teaching at AKP, she commented on how Japan was one of the only places that treated her with respect for being a professor. I didn't really get it. I didn't realize that professors were so under-appreciated.... :-/
