Beautifully tragic, or possibly tragically beautiful?

The girl -- no, the young woman enters, deeply engrossed in a book on sorcery. Unfortunately, there's a couch in her path. She trips over it with a mostly-muffled curse and, somehow, lands in a spectacularly tangled pile on the floor. "Ow," she finally says, directing a scowl at the couch. Then she looks around and shakes her head

And Pollux will walk by, arching an eyebrow almost dismissively.

"Bit tall for a house elf, aren't you?"

"Aw, that's cute. Very new, very inventive. Never heard anything like it before." Kalyn gives him a rather annoyed look.

"If I look like I care, let me know so I can fix that."

"Why comment if you don't care?"

Here's a flying bundle of bright colors launched at and now attached to Kalyn's back. Have an aunt. "'Bout fucking time!"

"Ack!" She tilts her head to at least attempt to see who it is. "Lena, now I can't get up. Please get off?"

There's a sigh. "Fine, fine." And she jumps off. "What took you so long?"

Kalyn attempts to untangle herself and stands, grabbing her book as she does so. "I was working on a spell." She makes a face. "It sort of, um, exploded on me."

"It could be worse," Perpetua says cheerily, propping her feet up on a couch opposite Kalyn. "You okay?" she asks. There's a look of mild interest that goes beyond just her wellbeing, but Perpetua's not going to bring up the green skin; staying colorblind, after all, is an important thing.

Kalyn recognizes that sort of look, she's seen it many times before. But she decides to ignore it, and brushes back some hair from her face. "Yeah. Only my pride's hurt," she replies with a grin. "I'm Kalyn."

"What are you reading?" Louisa asks, distracted first by the important things. Then the more obvious things come to her attention. "And what are--" She realizes a moment too late that that probably isn't a very polite question.

"A book on cleaning spells." Because she was in need of it, the way that last spell turned out. That second question, though, makes her sharpen a bit, and she says quietly, fiercely, "Are you going to finish that question?"

"No. It makes perfect sense now. You do magic?" she asks eagerly.

[iamnotelphie]

"What makes perfect sense?" She says, still in that sharp tone. Apparently Kalyn has a bit of a temper. "Yes, I do magic."

Dario gives her a very serious look, "You should watch where you're going, missy. Crashing into things hurts."

[iamnotelphie]

"I've noticed," she says dryly. "And who are you calling 'missy', boyo? I'm older than you." But she's grinning, all the same.

He laughs and gives her a hug, "Yeah I know. How've you been? Aside from assaulting couches, obviously."

She hugs back, cheerfully enough. "Exploding feathery chairs. My room's been an exciting place lately."
