Nightshift 34: M81-M90 Hallway

Aug 14, 2008 15:52

The moment the doors unlocked, Peter was rushing out of his, suited up and flashlight in hand. He knew that it would do no good to panic, but he couldn't help it. The longer he had been forced to wait in that room on his own, the more he had thought about what they might be doing to Logan.

He needed to get the word out to someone, and Statesman ( Read more... )

Just a few moments after Parker had stepped outside, Statesman emerged from his room. He was a bit surprised to see the kid out there before him, especially without Logan.

The two of them usually emerged together after Marcus. He didn't want to jump to conclusions, but there weren't be that many reasons Parker would be out here waiting alone for him, and most of them were in varying degrees of bad.

"Where's Logan?" Marcus asked, not looking forward to the answer.

Glad he didn't have to wait long, Peter quickly moved over to Statesman, trying to keep himself calm as the question was asked. At least they wouldn't be wasting any time.

"He got taken," he said. "Special counseling. I don't know where he'll be, but..." This was the point he had been arguing with himself over for the past half hour or so. "It might be best if we don't go looking for him. He's going to try and attack us, and I know he won't want to face that in the morning."

Not that attacking other patients who he didn't know was going to be any better, but Peter figured that injuring his friends might do more damage in the end. He really hoped Logan could handle it, but he had been through this sort of thing before. Though Peter doubted that made it any easier even if he was "used" to it.

He hoped Harry got here soon. They needed to figure out what they were doing, considering this new development.

After he heard Parker confirm his fears about what had happened to Logan, Marcus nodded. He knew how much it had bothered him last night to fight the young girl. The thought that Logan would be out there tonight, forced to attack innocent people was really more than Marcus could take on top of the constant stress of this place ( ... )

As Statesman took a moment to accept the news and take out his frustration, Peter remained where he was, not even flinching when the other man attacked the wall. He knew what it was like to have anger bubble up like that and almost consume you, and he could relate to how the other man was feeling all too well ( ... )

The intercom took Nny by surprise. He hadn't expected such...crazed laughter. It didn't frighten him, just surprised him. He decided it was inconsequential anyway, and began gathering supplies for his cake excursion with GLaDOS. He found a flashlight under his pillow, a coat (merciful waffles) in the closet, and many nice, pointy pens in the desk. He also found the radio, which he promptly pocketed. He needed all the potential weapons he could find.

Flashlight in hand, he exited the room and took a sharp right. Sun room, sun room...where was that again?

Ken had been on edge since dinner, for obvious reasons. Therefore, he disregarded the tray the staff had offered, despite having missed two meals and feeling a mite exhausted because of it. Instead, he buried himself under the covers in his corner of the room, pretending to sleep to avoid unnecessary interaction. The child ended up ignoring his roommate in the process, which Ken felt badly about afterwards.

As soon as the Head Doctor began his usual introduction to the night, Ken took to preparations, tucking the possibility of going outside in the back of his mind. As tempting as it was to grab everything (and the appropriate people) for an escape, he knew the chances for success were slim. Better to take care of their present issues before running.

Overcoat worn and weapon in hand, he crammed miscellaneous items into his pockets before making his way out of room and down the hallway. If everything went accordingly, Ken would reach the second floor kitchen in a matter of minutes.

Archer peered into the hallway, cautiously looking for any sign of danger. When he found none, he stepped into the hallway and signaled for Brook to follow. "Coast's clear."

Brook peeked out as well, ducking his head through the door and turning it about to see himself, before coming out behind his roommate. "It's always so dark out here! It wouldn't kill them to keep the lights on!" He paused, then laughed a bit. "Though at one time, it would have killed me!" The Sun wasn't exactly the same thing as simple indoor lighting, but Brook took his jokes where he could.

"Then don't forget to pick up your flashlight Brook," Archer said softly. He found that whispers often carried further than one would often like. Speaking softly proved to be the ideal median in his experience. "Seriously, the flashlight may come in handy later." Especially in the basement.

He had a shovel and no flashlight. This was the humor in Landel's Institute, Xelloss decided, that once you got one thing you'd lose another. But it was a kind of humor he could appreciate, even if shaking the light and turning it off and on wasn't helping at all. Tomorrow he'd find someone to talk into helping him get another flashlight, since he couldn't see in the dark and wasn't going to wander around upstairs blindly.

On the plus side, he had a weapon, and something that could put a dent in Zelgadis's current form--just as a sample idea of possible applications for it. If Lord Hellmaster didn't meet with him, he could head outside and let nature light the way. His roommate hadn't been very helpful with information concerning the outdoors, and Xelloss wasn't under any impression that jumping over a fence would get him closer to his true home, but he was honestly a little curious ( ... )

Hellmaster had plans for the evening (he'd been mulling them over in his head since lunch), but that didn't negate a quick word with the subordinate. He approached the Priest with a very 'get down to business' attitude.

"Xelloss," He stated frankly, "Do you have anything to report?"

"Good evening, Lord Hellmaster!" Xelloss was in a good enough mood that he ignored the business tone for a moment to exchange greetings instead. He held up his shovel in both palms demonstratively. "My experiment with the patient last night was a failure. But, I did get a shovel!"

The precise connection between these two events, or the sequence that had led from one to the other, was left out. After all, Hellmaster was being brief tonight, so perhaps he was in a hurry.

When Xelloss held up his shovel, Hellmaster arched an eyebrow. That would allow for the priest to have a fair bit of fun, assuming he used it properly. Hellmaster had no doubts that Xelloss would. "Where did you get the shovel?"

He put his hands on his hips. "And what are your plans for the evening?"
