Nightshift 34: M81-M90 Hallway

The moment the doors unlocked, Peter was rushing out of his, suited up and flashlight in hand. He knew that it would do no good to panic, but he couldn't help it. The longer he had been forced to wait in that room on his own, the more he had thought about what they might be doing to Logan.

He needed to get the word out to someone, and Statesman ( Read more... )

He had a shovel and no flashlight. This was the humor in Landel's Institute, Xelloss decided, that once you got one thing you'd lose another. But it was a kind of humor he could appreciate, even if shaking the light and turning it off and on wasn't helping at all. Tomorrow he'd find someone to talk into helping him get another flashlight, since he couldn't see in the dark and wasn't going to wander around upstairs blindly.

On the plus side, he had a weapon, and something that could put a dent in Zelgadis's current form--just as a sample idea of possible applications for it. If Lord Hellmaster didn't meet with him, he could head outside and let nature light the way. His roommate hadn't been very helpful with information concerning the outdoors, and Xelloss wasn't under any impression that jumping over a fence would get him closer to his true home, but he was honestly a little curious ( ... )

Hellmaster had plans for the evening (he'd been mulling them over in his head since lunch), but that didn't negate a quick word with the subordinate. He approached the Priest with a very 'get down to business' attitude.

"Xelloss," He stated frankly, "Do you have anything to report?"

"Good evening, Lord Hellmaster!" Xelloss was in a good enough mood that he ignored the business tone for a moment to exchange greetings instead. He held up his shovel in both palms demonstratively. "My experiment with the patient last night was a failure. But, I did get a shovel!"

The precise connection between these two events, or the sequence that had led from one to the other, was left out. After all, Hellmaster was being brief tonight, so perhaps he was in a hurry.

When Xelloss held up his shovel, Hellmaster arched an eyebrow. That would allow for the priest to have a fair bit of fun, assuming he used it properly. Hellmaster had no doubts that Xelloss would. "Where did you get the shovel?"

He put his hands on his hips. "And what are your plans for the evening?"

"The shovels are kept in a gardening shed. It's in the central courtyard." Xelloss answered, and appreciated the eyebrow raise even in the dark. He'd been a bit hesitant about using weapons now that he was genuinely a bit restricted to them, but really, bludgeoning people had to be fun. So many humans made a whole lifetime occupation of it.

"This evening, I intended to try traveling over the outside fence for a brief period. I was curious, and I thought I could try seeing if the atmosphere there felt any different," such as if he felt any closer to his self there, "and to see what sort of things are out there. I didn't intend to go too far, however, since I wanted to travel alone in the hopes that the patients in larger, louder groups would attract more monsters."

Phibrizzo nodded. "Seems like a sound course of action. You will report what you find, I trust?"

Not that Xelloss could refuse, though it didn't mean he wouldn't choose omit details that would benefit him. Phibrizzo 'hmm'-ed a moment before making a petty request (though given his childish appearance, what else could be expected?): "Bring me a present from outside the wall."

That would ensure the Priest came up with something report the next night, at least.

Well, that might be a tall order. "I'll look for something appropriately exciting," Xelloss promised nonetheless. Granted, it might wind up being a rock... or a part of something that attacked Xelloss, for that matter... but he would at least come back with something.

Ideally, he'd find something of interest, but he hadn't expected much more than a survey of the area. He wasn't going to go out of his way or risk himself seeking souvenirs, even if the doctor's comments had suggested there might be something out there other than woods and, eventually, Doyleton.

Phibrizzo nodded. He really had nothing else to say and he needed to get moving if he was going to catch Mason before the man had a chance to get very far. "Well then," He folded his arms. "I suppose that is all for now. I will speak with you tomorrow."

He'd let the priest leave first. He didn't necessarily need Xelloss to know his plans.

Lord Hellmaster's dismissal was obvious, so Xelloss bowed politely. "I'll see you tomorrow evening. Have fun on tomorrow's field trip, as well!" Whatever Lord Hellmaster did at night (getting into t-shirt ripping contests with... 'Noah'?) it wasn't Xelloss's business. At least, so long as it also didn't become a problem for him.
