Day 33: Recreational Field

Jun 26, 2008 04:45

Guy let out a sigh of relief as he made his way out onto the field, glad to have some fresh air and sunshine after going so many days without it. That was one of the hardest things about being kept in this place, in his opinion. At least during their journey they had been outside more often than not ( Read more... )

Roy was feeling even better after his talk with Hughes, though their plans had him eager for night to come again. He knew he shouldn't have been looking forward to such danger, but they were well-prepared and the prospect of making some progress, any progress, was much better than kicking a ball around. He could only hope that the rest of the day would pass quickly ( ... )

It took some effort for Wolfram to want to leave the cafeteria, mostly because at that point he'd been quite content not to move for the rest of the day. But he'd already made the decision to go looking for this Roy Mustang person, and after all that happened last night, the idea of getting to know someone who could make him a sword was more than encouragement enough; at least more than what was given by the nurse that insisted that he looked like he could use the fresh air ( ... )

In the end, it didn't take that long for Wolfram to find him. It was odd for Roy to have to give out his mismatched eyes as a way to identify him, but they did stand out and most of the other patients would have no idea what the meaning behind them was. Luckily, most people didn't ask about it, so he didn't have to worry about dodging the question.

He hadn't expected Wolfram to be so young, though he really shouldn't have been surprised. There were a good amount of young people around here -- more than there should have been, in any case. For someone who was used to being remarkably young in comparison to his higher-ups, Roy still wasn't exactly used to being one of the older people in this place.

"I am," he confirmed with a nod. He watched the other patients who were starting to claim equipment from the shed. "Let's move off to the side," he suggested, not waiting to start walking to the edge of the field.

Even if Wolfram didn't have his wrist bandaged, the idea of playing... sports didn't sound too appealing. That had always been Yuuri's thing, where he was much more inclined to sit on the sidelines and watch, trying to figure out what was so exciting about getting all sweaty by chasing some stupid ball around. No thanks. If he had to work out, it was much better done with a sword and being productive.

He followed Roy to the much less dangerous spot, blinking in the bright sunlight. It didn't take him long to move on to business, curious by what he'd read this morning. "So you're a weapon smith, I take it?"

Beaming after his conversation with Renamon and Kairi, Sora nearly ran out onto the soccer field. He was feeling particularly energetic considering all the praise Renamon had given him, and the opportunity to be active was exactly what he needed at this point ( ... )

Cid figured he'd have to catch up with Yuffie on the bulletin board sometime, and for that matter, give a shout-out to any AVALANCHE members who were still even here. Hell, he hadn't even seen Barret around recently, and Cloud just... hadn't been doing much, hadn't been taking initiative like he had back when they'd gone after Sephiroth. Cid wasn't sure if the kid had ended up in a wheelchair again during those two extra years, but Barret had been doing most of the planning from what Cid had seen, and with him gone... well, someone had to try organizing them all together ( ... )

Having gotten a little ambitious by making an attempt to kick the ball with his left foot rather than his right, Sora had only been able to watch in horror as it flew off-course and smacked someone in the head.

The following yell was understandable, but it was enough to make him wince -- partly due to the word itself, but mainly because he was the one who had caused it. The familiar voice (and, unfortunately, the familiar word) immediately clued him in to who it was as he rushed over to apologize.

He was surprised when he got a smile rather than some more angered yelling, though he still grabbed for the ball and held it tightly in his arms, as if hoping he could contain it and make sure it didn't get away from him and hit someone else. "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to, it just kind of happened!"

Sora peered up at the man, noticing the bandage over his nose even though he was half-covering it with his hands. "D-did it hit you there?" he asked, tone wavering. As if it wasn't bad enough! He really had no luck when it came to this

"Nah, nah..." Cid tried to laugh his injury off and only succeeded in giving a small wince. Sora's mishap may have not rebroken his nose, but he'd certainly be getting a bruise on the side of his face. (A small one, though.)

"I'm fine," he waved his hand at the kid before looking him over. He seemed earnest, that was for sure, and also a super goody two-shoes. A thought occurred to him and he frowned. What if this kid was from his world, except in the future? Too bad he'd only figured that out later down the line...

"So uh..." He scratched behind his ear. "You say you... know me?"

While Peter was glad that he had been able to help out a new patient even a little bit, he was also hoping he could find Claire already. Nathan had run into her, so he was wondering how it was that he kept missing the girl. The fact that there were so many patients crowded into one room combined with the fact that she was so small made it more of a challenge ( ... )

Having just been reunited with Claire, all Bennet wanted to do right now was remain close to her. Unfortunately, the most recent shift change was going to make that rather difficult. He couldn't stop thinking about her, even as he was lead outside.

Noah disliked this feeling. Being so close to Claire, but not knowing if anything was going to happen to her…

Out on the field, Bennet watched the patients, the younger ones in particular, indulged in various activities. While he supposed there was no harm in partaking of such distractions, it was not something he was going participate in himself. Those years were well behind him, of course.

The most ideal way to spend the time, in his opinion, was to find someone to converse with to get more information. As luck would have it, he encountered yet another familiar face.

"Peter...?"

Having spotted Nathan as he exited onto the field, Peter had been surprised that his brother hadn't come over to meet him. Then again, it was probably better if they focused on getting more information and also making more contacts. Besides, not much had happened last night, so it wasn't like they needed to check up on each other or discuss anything. Well, trying to form a larger plan might be a good idea, but...

A voice coming from his side was enough to distract him, but it didn't register until he turned to see who it was.

"Mr. Bennet?" he returned with wide eyes. Of all the people to show up here, he certainly hadn't expected Claire's dad. It was only after he had gotten the words out that he realized the man had asked him to call him by his first name, but it was too late for that now.

"I can't believe... Even you're here?" Peter brushed his hair out of his eyes and let out a sigh. If even Noah Bennet had been trapped by this place, it made their chances of escape even worse.

This was truly unusual. The last time he had seen Peter was when he and his brother had flown towards the sky before the resulting explosion.

"Since yesterday afternoon, and I'm as surprised as you are." Despite the surprise, Noah was glad to have him present. As past experiences demonstrated, the younger Petrelli brother was someone he could depend on. Having at least one trusted individual went a long way inside an Institute full of unfamiliar and potentially dangerous individuals.

"How... have you been?"

He seemed to be pretty healthy for someone who had produced a rather impressive nuclear blast not too long ago.

The recreational field unfortunately reminded Peter of high school PE class, something he had been forced to deal with before he was any good at physical activity. As things stood, he could probably play any of the offered sports without much of a problem, but the memories were enough to put him off.

On the other hand, this area would be pretty good for testing out his powers, though chances were it would never actually be safe enough at night for him to make use of it. At one point he was just going to have to check and see if he could climb the wall in his and Logan's room, even though it would most likely lead to making a fool of himself.

Running a hand through his hair, he glanced around at the patients who were already taking to the field. It was good to see that some people could take joy in what the institute had to offer -- the library was just more his thing.

Guess I haven't changed that much, he thought with a small sigh as he found a place off to the side where he could take a seat on the grass.

(Hope a former bully is okay?

Takaya didn't want to play with a damn ball. Something he was happy to share with the nurse who kept trying to give him ablack-and-whitesoccer ball. He kept shoving right back at her. Finally, when her shadow shove it at him, he flipped her the bird, grabbed the ball (maybe he could throw it at someone later) and stalked off to a corner of the field.

It wasn't until he'd actually sat down that he noticed the other guy, anda glance at the woman showed that this was acceptable.

Shit.

Oh well. Better this than being forced into doing something stupid. He ignored the guy in favor of frowning down at the ball. To think, he used to LIKE the game.

When a particularly pushy nurse and an equally stubborn patient started getting into a silent argument fairly close to where Peter was sitting, he couldn't help but notice and end up watching, if only out of boredom. He didn't understand how forcing the patients to participate was going to help them, but the nurses here weren't exactly logical.

Though eventually the patient stormed away right in his direction, and Peter straightened a little.

The teenager didn't seem to notice him until after he had sat down, and even then he didn't say anything. Peter didn't think he could just keep quiet after witnessing all of that, though, and the kid looked like he needed some cheering up.

"Not a fan of soccer, huh?" he asked, glancing over at the ball as well.

(holy- BAD GRAMMER AHOY! I'm sorry about that last post. I'll try not to do that again.)

Takaya turned his glare towards the guy, gold eyes narrowing. "I like soccer fine," he said, tone quite a bit less annoyed than his expression. "I don't like being fucking forced to play."

He considered throwing the ball at his head, then set it on the grass and instead rolled it over. A fight with another orderly wasn't on his list of things to do at the moment.

"What about you? They must like you if they didn't push this shit on you too."

Tyler slipped out onto the recreational field, still munching on a piece of bacon. He'd stuck by himself for breakfast, having a lot to think about from the night before. Even now, as he wandered outside, a small frown flitted across his face as he looked for somewhere to sit that was out of the way and that wouldn't get him involved in whatever sport the few people already here seemed bent on starting.

He shifted uncomfortably in the uniform he was wearing once again. The one he'd woken up in. He'd had a moment of panic at that, but the clothing he'd found last night was hanging safely in his closet this morning and he'd heaved a sigh of relief. At least he still had that.

Finding a quiet spot, he flopped down on the damp grass and sprawled out on his back, still feeling tired from the lack of sleep last night. Maybe he could catch a nap out here for a while?

Well, he had food in his stomach. That was one plus.

Without the medium of school and family to get him up early in the morning, he felt it was still too early for the staff to be dragging around their victims like this. Especially to be told that guys and girls were going to spend the “activity” shifts all split up. The fuck was with that? As if having absolutely nothing to do but seriously consider smashing someone’s head in with a chair wasn’t bad enough ( ... )

Tyler jerked as a soccer ball landed not far from where he was lying. Pushing himself up on his elbows, he glanced around for the source as he reached for the ball. Spotting the blond not far away, he shot Reid a wry look, his lips twisting into a crooked grin as he tossed the ball back to his best friend.

"You missed," he called as he threw the ball back.

"Would've served you right if I hadn't," came the reflexive reply. Reid caught the ball and rolled it around in his hands for something to do as he approached. Lucky or unlucky it was Tyler? He wasn't sure.

If he'd known, Reid thought he probably would've tried to hit him on purpose, which was a thought that held less carefree joking than it normally would.

Whether it was night or not, things still weren't... normal.
