Night 59: M-B Block Hallway

Peter left the room thinking very deep thoughts. Most of which entailed speculation on the origins of the pink glow he had just been assaulted by. As much as he hated himself for it, he couldn't help but keep coming back to the Matrix. Maybe they just changed something. Turned the halls into mazes.

Buzz.

He was trying not to focus on the details. Don't think about what's going to happen. Don't think about what he meant by people getting selected to help. Don't think about nightly experiments and brainwashing. Don't think about the corridors being empty, or not being able to hear anything except your own breathing. One of Kirk's strengths, as unenviable as it might seem, was his ability to dispense with the thinking and just act. Which he did now, flashlight held before him, taking the hallways at a brisk walk and not even stopping when the sirens blared throughout the building.

Not at first, anyway. Sirens weren't something which rattled a Starfleet officer, even a newly minted one, but sirens were expected on a starship, not in a hospital. Kirk spun around on the spot, looking for the source of the alarm, and felt his jaw tighten when a familiar female voice began to warble disjointedly at them. "What the hell...?"

Code Red. Like mobilized wordplay, a pink glow suddenly came towards him, streaking along the ( ... )

Byrne moved through the hallway at a brisk walking pace, gripping the gun firmly in his hand. Whatever that message had meant, whatever those alarms had meant, whatever 'Aguilar's project of great importance' meant, it didn't matter to him right now. He just needed to get to Badd before anything else happened and--

--oh sweet mother of GOD was that a cat splattered on the wall over there?!

Byrne was so very tempted to stop and stare at the gruesome sight of cat bones and entrails making a fine piece of bloody artwork on the hallway wall. But not tonight. In fact, seeing that as he passed by was only making him want to go faster. He picked up his pace instantly and reached the next hallway going at a speed between a jog and an all-out run.

Once again. What the hell was going on!?

[from here]McCoy had to cover his nose just to keep the odor from hitting him full blast. He only just rounded a corner to find an explosion of gore on the wall, as if something had hit it with incredible force ( ... )

They were backIt was almost as though he’d suddenly flicked on a light switch; the initial shock, those first fumbling seconds while his eyes became accustomed to the brightness, and then, finally, total clarity. That feeling he’d had- that hadn’t just been unease. It had been ki energy ( ... )

[From here.]Guy had barely made it into the next hall when he realized that something had changed. It took him a second or two to work out what it was, but he remembered how it had felt in the coliseum that night and knew that it was the same thing. It was like fonons had suddenly been filtered into the air and also into his body, meaning that his ability to use them was back in place ( ... )

Strangely enough, Claude felt a surge of energy run through his body as he left his room. The natural strength he'd worked so hard to develop during his powers coursed through his veins, lying in wait until he chose to harness it. It was even stronger than what he'd felt last night -- if anything, the sensation was more like what had happened in the coliseum. Either that was good...or very, very bad ( ... )

For a moment, all Guy could see was a light displayed against the nearest wall and bobbing up and down. What was that...? The sound of footsteps followed soon after, though, and before long Claude showed up with that hard hat strapped to his head. He'd gotten that the night that they'd been bitten by those zombies, hadn't he? Guy wondered why Claude didn't use it more often, but it might have something to do with the fact that it looked a little silly. Right now it was more important to take caution, though ( ... )

So Guy wasn't the only one. That was both a relief and a bit of a concern. Of course, with their powers combined, Claude imagined they could do a bit of damage if push came to shove. As crazy as things were now, the situation hadn't reached coliseum-level insanity. Maybe they could use their powers to their advantage. At least, he hoped they could ( ... )
