Peter left the room thinking very deep thoughts. Most of which entailed speculation on the origins of the pink glow he had just been assaulted by. As much as he hated himself for it, he couldn't help but keep coming back to the Matrix. Maybe they just changed something. Turned the halls into mazes.

He was trying not to focus on the details. Don't think about what's going to happen. Don't think about what he meant by people getting selected to help. Don't think about nightly experiments and brainwashing. Don't think about the corridors being empty, or not being able to hear anything except your own breathing. One of Kirk's strengths, as unenviable as it might seem, was his ability to dispense with the thinking and just act. Which he did now, flashlight held before him, taking the hallways at a brisk walk and not even stopping when the sirens blared throughout the building.

Byrne was so very tempted to stop and stare at the gruesome sight of cat bones and entrails making a fine piece of bloody artwork on the hallway wall. But not tonight. In fact, seeing that as he passed by was only making him want to go faster. He picked up his pace instantly and reached the next hallway going at a speed between a jog and an all-out run.
Once again. What the hell was going on!?

Strangely enough, Claude felt a surge of energy run through his body as he left his room. The natural strength he'd worked so hard to develop during his powers coursed through his veins, lying in wait until he chose to harness it. It was even stronger than what he'd felt last night -- if anything, the sensation was more like what had happened in the coliseum. Either that was good...or very, very bad ( ... )
