Night 59: M-B Block Hallway

[From here.]

Peter left the room thinking very deep thoughts. Most of which entailed speculation on the origins of the pink glow he had just been assaulted by. As much as he hated himself for it, he couldn't help but keep coming back to the Matrix. Maybe they just changed something. Turned the halls into mazes.

Buzz.

For a moment, all Guy could see was a light displayed against the nearest wall and bobbing up and down. What was that...? The sound of footsteps followed soon after, though, and before long Claude showed up with that hard hat strapped to his head. He'd gotten that the night that they'd been bitten by those zombies, hadn't he? Guy wondered why Claude didn't use it more often, but it might have something to do with the fact that it looked a little silly. Right now it was more important to take caution, though.

He also noticed that Claude was carrying two swords with him, though he only recognized one. He realized that the other one was probably going to be handed over to Luke, but Guy had never seen it before. He'd been expecting Claude to bring Ashton's sword, and now he had to wonder just how many his friend was hoarding -- and where had he even gotten them from?

Asking about that would need to wait, however, since Claude started off with a pertinent question. "I'm definitely feeling something this time around. I'm pretty sure I have full access to my sword Artes now." He didn't think he had to bring up the coliseum for Claude to get the picture. Both of them had seen the other fight at full strength, though they had also both been somewhat distracted at the time, to say the least.

"Do you have any idea why this happened?" he asked with a frown, searching the other man's face for answers. "Something to do with that device, maybe?" He knew that they needed to go find Anise, but he figured he could at least ask one question before they set off.

So Guy wasn't the only one. That was both a relief and a bit of a concern. Of course, with their powers combined, Claude imagined they could do a bit of damage if push came to shove. As crazy as things were now, the situation hadn't reached coliseum-level insanity. Maybe they could use their powers to their advantage. At least, he hoped they could.

"I-I'm not exactly sure, but..." Claude briefly paused as he considered the bulletin notes he'd read earlier. "I'm not the only one who suddenly knew about that device last night. Turns out it was a side effect of some of those drugs. I'm starting to wonder if the military actually intended for that to happen, or if someone tried to sabotage them somehow."

After all, whatever was keeping their powers in check was obviously malfunctioning now. Judging from the urgent I.R.I.S. message a few minutes ago, the military had a serious problem on their hands.

But now wasn't the time to stand around and speculate about everything. That pink glow wasn't getting any fainter, and they had no idea what to expect for the rest of the night. "Anyway, do you know where Anise is supposed to be meeting us?" he asked, focusing on the matter at hand for now. "And what about Luke? Didn't he need us to deliver this sword to him?" Hopefully whatever was happening now hadn't scattered everyone too much.

A side effect of the drugs? That seemed pretty strange as far as side effects went, though Guy was willing to trust Claude's judgment there. His guess was that the military hadn't planned for that. They clearly didn't have things under control at the moment if they were announcing an emergency, which meant that the patients as a whole might actually have a chance of making some headway tonight.

Unfortunately, any thoughts of getting home were probably unfounded, seeing how they still hadn't figured out what technology had brought them to this place and time. Guy decided that he would keep that thought to himself, though. There was no point in depressing his friend, even though Claude had probably already come to that conclusion himself.

"Well, I guess we should do whatever we can with these abilities while we have them." Guy didn't know if the military was going to be able to restore that device, but it was probably best to assume that they were capable of it. That meant making the most of every second.

"I told Luke I'd meet him outside his block, which is the one south from here. Anise will probably find us along the way." He wasn't too worried about the girl, seeing how they had met up countless times already. She would probably make the safe decision and come find them. "Anyway, we'd better get going." Luke was probably pretty confused by this strange turn of events, so they needed to get to him as fast as possible. With that thought in mind, Guy quickly led them out the door.
