“Tell me again, Woohyun. What does ordering four cups of coffee have to do with entering the building in clad suits?” Sunggyu questioned, or more like whined for the umpteenth time since they entered the coffee shop.
They were supposed to head to Lee’s Electronics Corp., which was a highly incorporated business that grew upon their popular customized CCTV security cameras and for the past few months, had been growing nonstop. Eventually the company took the number one spot for international trade and its employees didn’t seem to offer much complaint as much as service was concern around the area.
Or so they say.
“Because this is how you win an interview.” Woohyun answered him cheekily. The smug smile on his face was not helping at all and Sunggyu wished the other would explain more thoroughly rather than ordering more coffee. Sungyeol would be delighted though, but that was beyond the point right now.
The point was, they both had to enter Lee’s Electronics Corp. secretly.
Through an interview.
And why?
Because the company had done absolutely nothing wrong.
Well, nothing suspicious enough to order a legal search warrant.
Sunggyu sighed at the thought.
“If you want to win over your superiors, you have to kiss up to them,” Woohyun mumbled mostly to himself, handing two cups of coffee to Sunggyu while adding more sugar to his own. Sunggyu nearly took his words literally, and the image of Woohyun kissing him had him unconsciously stirring his coffee vigorously.
He blushed madly, shaking his head to will the image away before it got too far.
Once they both finished fixing up the coffee, they took the cups and made their way across the street, where the main corporate building was located. It was almost time for their appointed interview, which was a group interview with other potential employees- not, that it mattered, of course, since all they needed to do was get inside the building.
Because after all, the chairman and vice-chairman in the partnership were, respectively, none other than Lee Donghae and Lee Hyukjae.
The two names under suspicion for the underground distribution of the drug Spellbound.
And then, Sunggyu remembered why he was on this mission with Woohyun.
”Hypnosis!?”
The squad members spoke in unison, shock evident in each of their voices-or at least, all except for Myungsoo, whose eyes widened slightly more than usual.
Sunggyu’s mouth was hanging agape and it took him only a moment to realize that everyone was staring at him. He closed it quickly with an ‘ahem’ and composed himself like nothing had happened.
“Do you know how it works, Woohyun?” he asked hastily, glad it didn’t sound like he was stuttering at all.
This time, everyone’s eyes fell on Woohyun and the man hesitantly nodded before giving a thumb up. “Mostly with the environment, like the lighting and then the drug usage.” He gestured a finger upwards, towards the lights. “I’m not completely certain, but I was able to get some underground information about those four suspects. One- no, two of them distribute the drug through drug test for an interview, another through their prescribed patients and the last, I haven’t found out why yet.” The other members nodded their head at the newfound information, which could still be a rumor of some sort.
“Underground information?” Sunggyu asked skeptically. “How do you know if we can trust this information?” The squad members were probably thinking the same since none of them had tried to answer themselves.
“It’s a friend of mine and if you want, you can look up his records as well, but I do trust this person enough to believe it,” he said, and Sunggyu sort of wondered how great this person was to be able to earn such high trust from Nam Woohyun. Hell, he didn’t think he would have enough faith in the other since he was so sneaky and secretive.
“So, we’ll have to split up the investigation, lieutenant?” Myungsoo asked Sunggyu, changing the subject after a long pause.
Sunggyu, who was still staring at Woohyun in deep thought, snapped out of his trance and concluded, “It’ll be dangerous to involve ourselves in there, especially the interview because a company would most likely run background checks.” He pointed at Woohyun, whom the whole squad knew would most likely be caught red-handed first the moment he uttered his name.
“But they’ll have to contact headquarters first to confirm that information.” Hoya said and Sunggyu agreed.
“Wait, you’re not talking about changing the personal information on our records, are you hyung?” Sungyeol questioned, looking back and forth from Woohyun and then Sunggyu. However, it wasn’t the two of them who answered, but instead Myungsoo.
“We won’t erase everything completely. We can just create another database with fake information for the ones going to the interview. Even the drug patient can have another set of records for additional medical issues,” he said, and it was enough for the lieutenant to get the investigation going.
“Alright then,” Sunggyu summed. “Myungsoo will create that fake database and once it’s ready for use, we’ll undergo the investigation. Is that clear?”
Everyone saluted with a ‘yes, sir’ and Sunggyu couldn’t wait to divide the investigation.
Unfortunately, Sunggyu didn’t expect to investigate with Woohyun. But he didn’t trust Sungyeol to cooperate easily, considering that he would probably use every opportunity to shock Woohyun before he could even set foot into the building, and Hoya would distrust him, which Sunggyu couldn’t blame him for since Woohyun had snuck into their headquarter right under their noses.
Sunggyu sighed again.
“Your name?” The receptionist asked and Sunggyu looked up, confirming his name and was led to fifth floor along with Woohyun.
“First, you’ll need to pass a drug test. This way please.” A female employee led them to a waiting room next to an office; it seemed that the company had their own doctor specifically for employees, Sunggyu noted. There was also someone else seated in the waiting room with a cup of water in his hand, not looking up when they took a seat.
“Please wait here, Dr. Park will be right with you,” she said, leaving the two in the waiting room. When she was gone, Sunggyu whispered into Woohyun’s ear. “See. The coffee was worthless.”
“But I was right about the drug test,” Woohyun said gleefully, trying to sound like someone who had innocently done his research on the interview rather than talking about their ulterior motive aloud.
Well, there was an ulterior motive. Just not for the same purpose.
They quietly bickered about the work of coffee and Woohyun’s intelligence until they realized that the person who was in the waiting room with them had dropped to the floor, the cup of water spilled all over the rug, and they hurried over to help the person.
“H-hey. Are you alright?” Sunggyu was the first to get to him, feeling the guy’s pulse and once he found it, he knew the other had fallen unconscious. But why?
It was also during that moment when the door chose to open and someone- Dr. Park, Sunggyu assumed and he had called his name.
“Mr. Kim?” He said out loud, looking at the two with confusion- or rather a confirmation.
It was odd because the guy didn’t seem to take note that one of the interviewees had collapsed and made no movement to help the unconscious man. Instead, he said, “Which one of you is ‘Kim Sunggyu’?”
The two of them looked at the doctor in shock and Sunggyu was about to speak up until Woohyun beat him to it.
“Doctor, this guy is unconscious. Don’t you have a bed for him or can’t you look at him?” he asked worriedly. It was probably one of the many rare expressions Sunggyu had seen on the other’s face and he was at a loss for words.
“I’m sorry. I only assist the employees in this company.” He smiled as if he was making a pleasant conversation. “I can call security to take care of him,” the doctor simply stated and Sunggyu was a bit relieved; Woohyun, on the other hand, seemed outraged.
“But aren’t you a doctor? Shouldn’t your priority be to help patients in need?” Woohyun demanded, his voice louder than usual and Sunggyu could tell he was angry. He took hold of the other’s arm, hushing him quickly before he made any other stupid or bold move that would get them both kicked out of the company as well.
Nonchalantly, the doctor made a quick call to security and it wasn’t long before the unconscious man was dragged out.
Woohyun still looked remorseful and Sunggyu had to try his best to not kick him.
“Ok, now where was I? Oh yes, Kim Sunggyu? Please come this way.” Dr. Park said and Sunggyu followed behind. However, before he could take another step, Woohyun had grabbed onto his arm and whispered closely, “This guy is weird. Be careful, Gyu.”
Sunggyu slowly nodded and entered the doctor’s office. Oddly, it felt like he was going to an institution for the mental patients with the way the doctor’s room was decorated. Not that Sunggyu had ever been to a mental institution for that reason, but under a different investigation.
“Okay, have a seat here.” The doctor ordered and Sunggyu complied with ease. “So now, after looking at your records, it seems you have some sort of sleeping problems. Why is that?” he asked right off the bat and Sunggyu knew they were going to question him about that.
Truthfully, he had sleeping problems during investigations, pulling all-nighters for work until he caught the criminals and put them behind bars. Though he had meant to catch up on his sleep.
Eventually.
“Is this an issue for the company?” Sunggyu asked innocently, trying his best to smile and pretend he didn’t know why it was an issue.
“Well, of course it’s an issue! The company seeks to recruit employees with great health and having sleeping problems may affect your work if the company decides to offer you a position here.” he said, like it was a matter of fact and that Sunggyu should know about this detail himself.
“Then how can I prove my sleeping issue wont’ be a problem?” Sunggyu inquired, and the doctor’s face lit up at that very moment.
“Oh, I’m so glad you asked because this is exactly what the drug test is for.” He smiled in delight and got up, picking a bottle of tablets off his desk and dropping two of the tablets into a plastic cup-the same plastic cup the unconscious guy from earlier was holding- before handing it to Sunggyu.
“Take these pills. If it shows that you have fallen asleep within the next hour then you’ve passed the drug test.” the doctor finished, the smile of his stuck onto his face and Sunggyu was finding it rather annoying so instead he looked straight into the cup.
Just with one glance and Sunggyu knew what it was right away.
It was spellbound.
A/N: more info and some investigation and woogyu since they’re in it together. Hopefully it doesn’t sound weird with all the mishap and all. Anyone wants to guess if Sunggyu would take the pill or not? :D
