Inmate Consequences/Punishmentslt_n_uhuraMarch 7 2010, 17:15:11 UTC
I think that a standard for punishment is not going to solve a problem at all, simply because the inmates on this Barge are so very different. One inmate might despise zero because of the isolation, another might enjoy it because of the same reason. And still another might find the place absolutely terrifying because of something like claustrophobia. So, if we're wanting to suggest something that would encompass the entire population of the Barge, I think it needs to be for very obvious, very serious things

While I'm new here, I have to agree with my other two Wardens. I don't know very many inmates. However, I know one, and am coming to know my own. My own has other things that need to be taken, before imprisonment. There are far worse punishments for him, than simply being locked up.
Creed is the one I know well. I know what imprisonment does to him, having experienced it first hand. He is one I would recommend against confining too often

I believe there should be minimum and maximum punishments set for each crime, regardless of circumstances or the inmate in question. And any physical harm to inmates, except in the instance of self-defense or the defense of a third party, shouldn't be allowed.

My point is that we shouldn't allow wardens to dole out extreme punishments for minor crimes or, conversely, slaps on the wrist for something like murder. I can appreciate that in a situation such as this, the punishment can be tailored to the crime in a much more specific way than in a large-scale criminal justice system, but there should be certain boundaries in place or people will be free to completely abuse their power.

I don't believe certain guidelines would be amiss. Or at least some sort of periodic check-in to make sure none of the wardens are abusing their power. It seems as though they can do almost anything they want and there's no system in place to deal with, or even discover, any transgressions they may make.
Guess who doesn't want his system fucked with?impure_taleMarch 8 2010, 00:31:43 UTC
It should be left up to the discretion of the assigned Warden. Not to insult the lot of you, knowing I probably will, but I'm going to deal with my Inmate as best as I feel he can be dealt with, and I'm quite aware that once or twice I have used methods to discipline him that might be considered excessive by others. However, my methods have also shown themselves to be effective. I'm not going to risk my Inmate's progress just because a few Wardens cannot gauge their power properly, or because they've a weak stomach.
If complaints are lodged, then it can be addressed during these meetings, where the accused Warden shall have the right to properly defend their actions.

...It's not a marriage proposition, bucko. I just don't like being told what I can and can't do with my own inmate. If she's doing anything behind my back, she shouldn't, I'll deal with it on my terms.
