I think I'm really kind of sad, because I've been thinking this over. For one thing: Beedrill is a bee, Vespiquen is the wasp of the Pokemon world. Even though it evolves from another bee, which is a bit weird, but then Beedrill evolves from a caterpillar and it doesn't do to scrutinise Pokemon evolutionary lines too carefully.
