I've got an Advent calendar this year. It's kind of surprising because I know I haven't gone out to buy one or even asked for one for, um, three years straight now. But apparently my grandmother thinks I'm still eleven and she heard from my mother that we're studying an episode of Doctor Who for our media essay, so that's how I ended up with it. I didn't have the heart to mail it back to her because I am a very gracious person... no, I can't even type that with a straight face. But free chocolate is free chocolate, and who cares if there's an overgrown pepperpot on the front of it?

Though, I haven't taken it out of its plastic wrapping yet. This is mostly because I dropped it on the floor a few days ago and it's been totally camouflaged by all the other junk I have there. I could probably find it after five minutes of searching, but I'm lazy and I've got Pokemon to distract me. Chances are I'll find it on the 23rd, eat all of the chocolates in one go and spend Christmas Eve feeling extremely ill.

I'm not speaking from experience here at all.

The media essay is actually supposed to be a review. Unfortunately, it's not supposed to cover more than one episode, and when our English teacher got to pick which episode she picked the first half of a two-parter. Even more unfortunately, it's not a two-parter with John Barrowman in. But I guess David Tennant is pretty enough all by himself...

Yeah, I've spent the last two English lessons gawking at the Doctor instead of taking notes. My review might end up suffering as a result (or else being very specific :3 ), but hell - it's an English course, we're meant to be getting taught the fine art of bullshitting anyway.

And because I feel uncomfortable about not having done any memes for a little while, here's what I've ganked off tormentacorazon again!

List your favorite lines (a sentence, two, a short paragraph, fair game as long as it's either under fifty words or one sentence) from anything and/or everything you've ever written with links to the full work. (This can be fic, poetry, RP posts or logs, whatever.) It doesn't have to be fantastic, as long as you love that line.

Roughly in order of genre, but I only really write about two genres in any case, so don't let the disorganisation bother you. |D Unlinked quotes are off WIPs, linked quotes are off stuff I've actually posted, although that should be obvious.

First up, that one Taikato fic I keep going on about which is still nowhere near finished thanks to Pokemon Diamond and Pearl! I can't stick the entire opening section in here because it's too long, but I can stick lots of bits of it here if I like:

A butterfly flapping its wings can cause tornadoes in China. [...] But a tornado is just a tornado. Most of them aren't particularly important in the grand scheme of things, even if some suddenly homeless and very angry Chinese people would try to convince you otherwise.

Janyuu Lee was the first to leave the group, going on to raise a family and live an uneventful life until his Beijing apartment was flattened by a freak tornado

Flowers bloomed. The sun shone. Small children in parks playfully kicked footballs at each other's heads, stomachs and other vital organs, while their mothers deliberately ignored them and chatted about the importance of clean underwear.

The scritching of pencils filled the air and added to the normal background noise of the school, although right now it sounded like Principal Kurosawa had stopped to take a breath.

"Are you leaving, sir?"
"Yes, I'm going to go and talk to somebody who might actually know what's going on."

He wasn't used to situations like this. The closest thing he'd been through had been that time in third year with Kenta and the parrot.

A couple more from crossovers:

A history is being made. It isn't the one which was there a moment ago.

But here, in the real world, Daisuke's problems are far from over. He has quite a lot of problems - his sister sometimes introduces him to strangers as a problem child

He sprinted impressively towards the door. There was a noise. It sounded a bit like bong and a lot like crunch.

It's difficult to look indignant when you have your fingers stuffed into your mouth, but Takuya did his best.

There was no glint in Granny's eyes, like there might have been if what she'd been thinking of had not been perfectly Good and Right in every way. "They calls me Mistress Weatherwax," she said.

And finally genfic - I kind of dislike the fics linked here now, but hey:

"...suicide jelly! Bet you didn't see that one coming, huh?"

it was saying: you could go and inform somebody else about this unusual occurence really quickly, or you could hang around and wait for the next one of those things to hit you.

to Jenrya it was vitally important not to waste any of his hard-earned sofa time.

If he was perfectly honest with himself, he kind of missed the time when he could watch a news bulletin and know that either he'd just caused it or he would be involved in it soon.

"Ten thirty," said the bespectacled pile of clothing which was Jou.

Adult talk. It was rarely worth listening to, so he never did.

...I know most of these are pretty cheesy, but I like 'em. :D
