Band of Brothers

Jul 06, 2011 11:23

Burned through the rest of Band of Brothers on the weekend, and I'm rather disappointed in myself that it took me 10 whole years to watch this show. So, SO good. Obviously heartbreaking at times, but also a beautiful testament to the power and bond of friendship. I thought it was amazing. Great, great cast. Damian Lewis, Ron Livingston, Scott ( Read more... )

ron livingston, herr fassbender, damian lewis, something gay no doubt, fangirl alert!, band of brothers

ADORED!
ADORED!
ADORED! Band of Brothers. My husband and I watched it when it aired on HBO (cried my eyes out at the end.) and then ran out and bought the box set DVDs. It's one of the BEST mini-series in the history of television. I wanted to go to Pennsylvania and look up the real Dick Winters to give him a HUGE hug when it ended!!

I didn't realize Fassbender was in it. Did YOU know that James McAvoy ALSO had a small role? Maybe that's why they have so much chemistry in X-men?!? <3 ( ... )

Of course, he was hard to miss!

Damian's accent really was stellar. I was surprised Liebgott was Brit, too! They all did a fantastic job. Such an amazing series, and important, too. We can't forget these things.

haha! What was I thinking. How could you miss those eyes! It was a pretty moving death scene as well.

By the way, while I was responding to this post, my kids are singing "Do Re Mi" in the next room. I laughed when I saw your icon. :)

Wait a minute. Your reaction to Matthew Settle makes me think you did not watch Into the West. Is this a true fact? It was another epic miniseries by Spielberg that aired on TNT oh ... several years ago. But he starred and was incredible in it. I didn't even know he was on television anymore, lol.

Unfortunately, The Pacific pales in comparison to BoB. Just preparing you in advance.

But I was also late to the party on BoB and only watched it last year. It is such a fantastic series! I always do marathons of it especially when they're marathoning it on TV and I can always just watch the blu-ray.

PRETTY PICTURES ARE PRETTY. THANK YOU FOR THEM.

I love that scene where Ron is shot in the helmet and he's like, "QUIT LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT." While Winter's is all freaking out about it, lol.

OMG that is indeed a true fact! I will download toute suite. I only know Matthew as the dad on GG. Needless to say it is beneath his talents.

My dad loved The Pacific, but he likely has a different perspective. What didn't you like? Dad just ordered a few of the books the soliders it focuses on wrote. I was looking through the pictures and there's one of a marine crouching by dead friends with his hand over his face and I'M GOING TO TEAR UP RIGHT NOW THINKING ABOUT IT. Gah ( ... )

Well, fab! He is v. v. talented. He plays Jacob Wheeler and he goes out into the world for more adventure in his life. It's so different than his character in BoB ... who is a little terrifying ( ... )

Warning: Christian Kane also appears in Into the West. Just sayin'. :)

I also saw Life before BoB, and it made me want to search out the miniseries. I felt that the character Damian plays could have been so overbearingly quirky if it had been someone else in the part. Meaning: If I read the dialog on the page, I might not have liked the character at all. And his partner is gorgeous.

Lastly, remember when Ron L was on The Practice? ob-JEC-tion!

I loved Life. In terms of its ending, a "satisfying" ending would have been if it had aired for more than two seasons. As it is, they found a way to wrap up the current storylines in ways that did not make me want to stab the television with a fork.

It's worth it, in other words. Go for it.

Hee. I will indeed go for it, thank you! At this point, the lead not getting hit by a train is a winner for me.

BOB is one of my favorite's but when it came to Bastogne and Breaking Point it took me a bit to actually watch the scenes because of how Wild Bill and Joe Toye were badly hurt and when Penkala and Muck were killed. I've gone back and looked up interviews of the actual men from Easy company and have gained a new found respect for the Army even though I already respected it because I grew up as an Army brat. Now I've just got to get the Pacific and watch it. I loved Peter Youngblood as Shifty and apparently Peter only lived an hour away from Shifty Powers himself. Also some of the cast from BOB will be jumping from planes to help raise money for a monument in I think Winters honor over seas.

Some parts really were hard to watch. So gut-wrenching. We watched all the extras on the DVD, which had a full-length doc on the real men with interviews, etc. They were extraordinary. I'm glad we had the chance to know their story.

That's so great that the cast is getting involved in the fundraising for the Winters memorial. I looked him up yesterday and saw he passed away in January and had a private funeral with no fanfare. Very fitting for him. :)

He was really yummy indeed! His character is mysterious at first, and his helmet was low and you could only see the lower half of his face and hear his voice. It was driving me crazy trying to figure out who he was, and I had to look in the credits and go IMDB Matthew. (I knew his name was familiar but still couldn't remember who he was.) He was really, really good in BoB. An awesomely fearless character. It was a pleasure getting to see him with something to do rather than go to Lily's parties. :|
