Yesterday, I was reading an SGA story called "The Reluctant Princess" by jdr1184. The opening was intriguing, and intermittent lines were amusing, but on the whole the writing was clumsy, lots of typos, etc. Then, suddenly, I recognized quotes from one of my favorite scenes from rageprufrock's widely beloved Bell Curve. Tonight's film: Valerie and Her Week of Wonders. A beautiful Czech film from 1970, crowded with pagan and Catholic imagery, vampires and magic. Nothing makes logical sense; the symbolism is sometimes anvilicious and sometimes deeply obscure, and nothing is really resolved. But it's all very lovely.
