Peter Potty.... http://pottytrainingsolutions.com/popup_image.php?pID=284

It hurt, Ville thought as he held the phone between his cheek and shoulder, listening to his mother telling him about the weather in Helsinki. It hurt to talk to his mother, but it hurt worse not too. He worried about her welfare, despite the abscess of her care in his own life.

"I know momma..." He told her softly, gazing down at the notebook in front of him; he had been working on some new songs. He wished he could stop answering her calls, turn a cold shoulder to her as she had so easily done to them as children. Yet, he couldn't stop thinking about her own silent misery, what she had endured in the darkness of that apartment when they were save with Mrs. Rintala.

He closed his eyes when the conversation moved to his father, he hated this even worse then just talking to his mother. The way she dropped careful hints about his health and well-being, as if hoping Ville would tell her he hoped he would feel better. That the alcohol induce sickness that had almost engulfed him, would suddenly disappear and everything would be better between them. As if the years of growing and nurturing the rift between them would suddenly heal and it would be like it never happened.

While the Valo children had always been close, it seemed the December visiting of Mrs. Rintala and Jesse had brought them even closer together. Jesse and Katri had spent several hours just the other night talking, which she in turn related to Ville. Jesse, was not so disappointed in this tactics that were enlisted to try and bring them back to the nest... but that they were never going to get an apology for what had happened. As she had done when it was actually happening, Anita choose to ignore the problems that lingered in her family.

Since he had no answer to this line of conversation, at least none he felt were appropriate to say to his mother, he said "Hmmm...." instead. He looked up from his note book to Katri who had just come into the kitchen. They could just look at each other and knew what was happening.

From the living room came a familiar cry, which allowed him a plausible excuse to get off the phone. He quickly told Anita that he would talk to her soon, passing the phone to Katri so he could go and see what the babies were up too.

"Hello momma..." Katri said softly as she ran her fingers through her hair, tugging on it as the conversation immediately went to how worried they were, that she was always just getting up and running around the planet. When she tried to convince her that she wasn't doing that anymore, Anita immediately asked why she hadn't come back to Finland then.

"America is my home now... I live here with Ville and Bam.." She didn't get much else out. Anita didn't want to hear about Bam, not because her direct dislike for him, but because of Kari's dislike for the life style they were living. Which had lead into the thing that really hurt Ville, she had never, and probably never would, see the twins.

The conversation drifted into the topic that Katri really hated, which was about her father's best friend. A man that Katri had dated for a short time as a teenager (he had been just slightly older than herself) and the resulting conflict between herself and Kari. He wanted her to give his friend another chance and she wanted them both to drop dead. Hence the conflict.

Katri didn't have to worry about forcing herself through a conversation with her mother much longer, since Anita was eager to get off the phone. She hung up and took a few calming breaths, shedding a tear or two like she usually did, and went back to what she had been doing before it happened.

Ville came into the living room as Niklas got up and came running over to him. He scooped the baby up, looking him over as he tried to figure out what was wrong. Esa was watching them from the floor, which was covered in blocks and toys.

"He just started crying." April said, as she came over to Ville and Niklas.

"What's wrong Niko?" Ville asked softly, watching as Niklas waved his hands, noticing something about what was happening. "I think I might know what's wrong."

"Hey Bammie..."

Bam looked away from the computer and to the older man, who had come in carrying Niklas. "Is something wrong?" He asked as he pulled his headphones off the rest of the way, turning to face two thirds of his family.

"I think we should seriously think about potty training the twins." Ville said.

"Do you think they are ready for it?" Bam asked.

"The last several times Niko has had a wet diaper he has cried because of it. I think that's a good enough sign that he is ready to learn how to go to the bathroom outside of his pants." Ville answered, making Bam chuckle.

"Well I do notice they go longer with dry diapers... and..." Bam paused as he chuckled. "Esa gets this look on his face when he's going."

Ville chuckled as he adjusted Niklas, who was leaning against his chest, hugging his Octotunes. "So are we going to start potty training?"

"Sure... I'll get the keys... let's go get us some potty chairs!" Bam said as he hoped up.

"Were you putting up a new blog?" Ville asked as he walked out of Bam's office with him.

"Yeah... I'm surprised anyone still reads it. They all want more details about the kids, but I haven't written much about them. I figure if they want to be in the media they can make that decision for themselves when they are older."

Ville nodded, "I'm sure they will appreciate that."

"Still... even with just the small little projects I do and the random crap I post on there, people still seem to love me. They want me to be on a TV show again and they ask about HIM now and then.... are you guys going to do any more CD's?" Bam asked.

"We've talked about it, I would like to do another CD...." Ville answered.

Bam nodded, wrapping his arm around him, "You know I would support you if you wanted too."

"I know you would love." Ville said, wrapping his arm around Bam, leaning in to kiss him. "But I don't think I'm ready to run away from here just yet."

Bam chuckled, "I think you've become as crazy as the rest of us."

Ville chuckled, "I was always crazy... it just came to the surface more."

****
"We're home!" Bam called as he came through the front door. Despite his arms being full, he stopped so Esa and Niklas could hug his legs, before they moved over to Ville.

"I would ask you if you found anything, but I can see that you did." April said as she walked over to her son.

"Wait till you see what we found...it's fantastic." Bam said as he carried the stuff to the downstairs bathroom.

Esa pushed his cart to the bathroom, leaving it next to the door, before he went in with the rest of his family. Niklas put his Octotunes into the cart before following his brother.

"Ta-dah!" Bam cried as he unveiled what they had got from the store.

"Oh my God...." April said as she moved closer to her son. "It looks like a little urinal!"

"It's a Peter Potty." Bam said, "isn't it great? This way the boys can learn how to pee standing up like big boys."

"Won't it be confusing to go between the two?" April ask as she watched Ville fit a brightly colored seat cover on the toilet.

"No more confusing then it is now. They will have eventually have to use the urinal, why not start now?" Bam posed, putting the stool next to the sink. "Look we got all these little hand wipe things and children's books..."

"You got children's books?" April asked, looking through them with Bam.

Niklas came over to the toilet and was touching the seat cover, sucking on his thumb as Ville put the second stool in front of the toilet.

He smiled at Niklas, "Potty.... potty...."

Niklas laughed and reached out and grabbed Ville's nose, causing his father to laugh.

Esa, mean while, was examining the child size urinal. In fact, he was trying to stick his arm down the hole in it.

Bam pulled Esa away from urinal, much to the little boys dismay; who immediately cried out in protest, waving his hand at the urinal. "The potty is not a toy."

"No!" Esa cried in response as he joined his brother at the toilet, examining it and especially the new cushioned seat cover.

"Do you want to try sitting on it?" Ville asked, trying to help Esa onto the toilet, only to have Esa pull away and tell him "no."

Brushing it off, since he knew Esa was just voicing his developing independence, he turned to Niklas. "Do you want to sit on it?"

The instant Niklas sat on the toilet, smiling since he was having a good time, Esa wanted to sit on the toilet. Ville made Esa wait for a minute or two, but he got Niklas off of it and gave Esa a chance to sit on it. Esa sat on it for less than half the time Niklas was on it, before he wanted back off.

Taking it all in stride, Ville helped him off the toilet, watching as Esa ran from the room, followed by Niklas as they went back to playing. "Well at least we got the stuff they will need." Ville said as he stood up.

"They will be fine... I'm sure it will be a piece of cake." Bam said as he wrapped his arms around Ville.

Ville chuckled as he wrapped his arms around Bam. "Ahhh.... to be so full of hope and trust."

****
Since they had started the steps of potty training, both boys had become increasingly interested in what Bam and Ville did in the bathroom. While it left their parents feeling a bit odd, as the twins fought over coming into the bathroom to watch them pee, they knew it was an important step in them understanding the complex process of potty training.

The process itself was going incredibly slow, with neither twin getting very far. Esa was just flat out refusing to participate at all, which wasn't a completely bad thing. It was alright if he wasn't ready to be potty trained yet, they still had time before it became a real concern. Niklas seemed to be trying to get the whole concept down, but was heart broken whenever he misread his bodily cues and went in his diaper.

Even when their parents were not in the bathroom, it was a source of amusement. One time specifically April had gotten distracted by a call from one of her friends, Bam was working on a project he had to do, and Ville was getting some chores done; the twins had wondered into the bathroom unattended...

Coping what he had seen his parents do, Niklas stuck his Octotunes toy on the toilet seat. Since he had no real concept of balance, the toy almost immediately fell into the toilet.

"Uh-oh." Both boys chimed together as they peered in to the toilet bowl, as the toy soaked up the water. Some how they managed to get it back out, looking at it for a moment as it lay in a puddle on the floor. After they wiped their hands off on each other, Niklas picked up one of the tentacles and proceeded to drag the toy through out the house.

It was only when Katri slipped and fell on the water trail, that the other adults realized what was happening.

April turned when she heard Katri fall, "Are you alright?"

"Uh-oh!" Esa cried as he indicated to Katri.

"Katri!" Ryan cried as he ran over to her.

"I'm alright..." Katri slowly got up, only to topple forward when she tried to put pressure on her right foot. She clung on to Ryan, whimpering and wincing in pain. "Oww... why is the floor wet?"

"I don't know..." Ryan said as he carefully helped her to the couch. "Let me look at your foot." He slowly helped her lift her leg onto his lap, so he could look at it better. "Doesn't look to bad... Bam! Ice me!"

"Coming right up!" Bam called from the kitchen, having come in when he heard Katri had fallen. "What the heck is all over the floor?" Bam asked as he brought Ryan an ice pack wrapped in a cloth.

"We were just wondering the same thing." Ryan said as he propped Katri's ankle on some pillows. He carefully put the ice on it before looking to Katri. "There... that should help with the swelling."

"Thank you Ryan."

Esa came over with one of his balls, handing it to her, before he pulled his pacifier out so he could kiss her on the cheek.

"Awww.... how sweet... thank you BB." Katri said, taking the ball before placing her hand on his head.

"BB?" Ryan asked.

"Baby Bam is to long for a nickname."

"BB...I like that." Bam said with a grin. "BB and Niko... my kids rock." He said, making the other adults laugh.

Niklas came over, thought standing next to her legs so he could look at the ice pack on her ankle.

"Don't touch..." Bam said, suddenly jumping when he felt something damp and cold touch his bare foot. Looking down, it didn't take him long to notice the very wet toy in his son's hand. "Niko...." He reached down and managed to get the toy from him fairly easily, since his son had been distracted.

Niklas looked to his father and then to his empty hand and back to Bam as he carried his toy away, and started screaming as he ran after him.

"This toy is soaked." Bam commented to Ville and April since they were in the kitchen.

Niklas continued to scream, leaning against Bam who was wringing the toy out in the sink, arms outstretched as he bounced up and down.

"Wait just one moment..." Bam said gently as he continued to try and squeeze the water from it.

"Do you think that's why the floor was so wet?" April asked.

"I think so... but where did he get all that water?" Ville asked, scooping up Niklas who only continued to cry harder, reaching out for his toy. "Niko please be patient for a moment."

Bam frowned as he looked to his mother. "Can I put this in the dryer?"

April checked the tag on the toy. "I think so..." She pulled the toy close to her nose and smelled it. "It smells weird." She commented as she wrinkled her nose.

"Probably from Niko playing with it so much." Ville commented.

"No it's something else." April left the kitchen, taking the toy with her.

Niklas was practically hanging over Ville's arms in an attempt to get down, so he could follow April in hopes of retrieving his toy.

"I think it's toilet water." April commented when she came back.

"How did you figure that out?" Bam asked in amazement.

"Well after carefully gathering clues and data and analyzing them, I noticed there was a lot of water around and on the toilet." April asked as she laughed, soon joined by Bam and Ville.

"That was really clever Ape... you got us there." Bam said, giving her a high-five.

"So what are you going to do about the toy?" Ville asked as he continued to try and calm Niklas down.

"I don't think there was anything in there but water, and I'm not even sure it was in the toilet, but I think it needs to be washed... and dried..." April said, kissing Niklas on the cheek, even though he wasn't much in the kissing mood. "I'm sorry little man."

"See, you remember this Niko. It wasn't papa and dada who took the toy away...it was me-maw." Bam commented which got him smacked in the arm.

"Shameful." April said, mostly teasing her son as she carried the toy away.

Even when the crying slowed, Niklas hovered around the laundry room, waiting for it to be returned to him. Thankfully the protest did not interfere with anything important... like dinner or going to bed.

Before the day was over, child and toy were reunited and all was right in the land of Vam.
