It's a bit complicated, but I'm currently in an oncologist's office. I know it's a routine screening prompted by abnormal results that are normal for someone with Mom's other medical issues, but it's still a bit overwhelming to walk into an oncologist's office for the first time in my life.

Mom's been experiencing arm and hand pain for a few weeks. Today it got bad enough she decided to go to the ER. She's now having an MRI and has been admitted. I'm heading out to Colorado for her brother's memorial service tomorrow. I'm fat, 40 and alone at home on Valentine's day watching Animal Planet's Too Cute!, but I can't seem to get very upset about it.

In entirely unrelated news, according to my doctor's office I've lost eight pounds.

My doctor's office is predominately Spanish speaking. Somehow I am able to endure this without becoming a raving racist. I don't know how I stay strong.

This weekend isn't working out the way I'd like.

I take a lot of medication. I'm on two to reduce uric acid in my kidneys (yes I take alipurinol; no I don't have gout), two for Type II Diabetes, two for cholesterol and one for high blood pressure (though that appears to be getting under control and my doctor just cut the dosage in half). Not doing resolutions this year. In September I quit my job and started a business/joined the family business. In November I started going to the gym three times a week, now up to four times a week. I think I'm at my limit on self imposed change for a few months at this point.

Working out seems productive. I am steadily progressing to more time and more difficult exercise. I'm up to a 7 resistance on the elliptical runner and a 10 resistance on the recumbent bike. I'm doing a half hour on each. If I want to go any longer than an hour, I'm going to have to find something other than a recumbent bike, however. Any longer ( Read more... )
