So over the weekend we went skiing with OACS at Cataloochee in NC. We got started a little later than we'd hoped because there was some drama, but anyways... k and i took the beginner class again since it's been like 4 years since we skied. So we spent most of Labor Day weekend doing stuff with the hiking people since most of our other friends were at Dagron-con. Saturday, we went hiking at Cloudland Canyon. It was a pretty good hike but a really long drive... After that, we went and did boardgaming group, which we haven't done in forever. It was fun, though, and we played a couple of ( Read more... )

7/24/2008Up at 0400 this morning in the hope of being the first group to the checkpoint. We slept OK, although i was pretty congested from inhaling several pounds of trail dust. That might have been a bit of blessing though. It rained in the night which seemed to activate all of the dried piss in the ground. The place smelled awful... Anyways, most ( Read more... )

7/23/2008We got up around 0500 to more coca tea with honey. Slept OK. It wasn't terribly cold once we used our hand warmers and fully bundled up, but the ground was pretty rough, so we woke up a bit sore. 7/22/2008We woke up at 0600 to coca tea with honey, which i found to be a pretty tasty wake up call. We had porridge, omelets, cheese and bread for breakfast and hit the checkpoint around 0730. We walked for about an hour and gain 300m of elevation. At the first stop, i bought a Gatorade for a rather atrocious S/8. Did i mention there are shops ( Read more... )

7/21/2008We got up around 0630 and had a lame breakfast at the hotel. Then we took a very bumpy bus ride out to kilometer 82 of the train track, which is the start of the Inca Trail at Piscacucho. When we got out of the bus we were mobbed by sales ladies with water, candies and hiking sticks. We both bought a walking stick, S/5 each. Of course, ( Read more... )
