It doesn't look very different from yesterday, but today things are actually sewn instead of just pinned! All the bodice needs are hooks and eyes up the back. The skirt still needs a hem and cording, but that's it. Almost done!

After work on Christmas Eve, I finished the side seams on my dad's vest by hand, and top-stitched the collar and armseyes. Today, I did the five functional buttonholes, and painted the 10 buttons with black nail polish (they were silver). So at this point, it just needs the back buckle and the buttons put on. I pressed all the vest edges, and did the side seam in the outer fabric (the inner has to be whipped by hand). I'm almost tempted to not do any buttonholes before I bring it to my dad, because I've never made a double breasted vest before, and I have very little experience with large bellies, but I really want it done! I'm on step 13 out of 13! Of course, step 13 is a big one. I still have to press around all the edges, sew up the side seams, do buttonholes, buttons, and add the buckle on the back tabs. My BF's 18th c suit has had two showings already! I worked nonstop all Saturday making the breeches and putting in the coat lining. It certainly would have been nice to have known before I drafted the breeches pattern that there is actually a Simplicity pattern for drop-front breeches.
