I'm happy to report that I've been firmly back on the hooping horse for a few weeks, and not just cardio and last year's tricks. It's been gloomier longer than I've ever seen it since I moved to NC nearly two decades ago. Now it's still gloomy, but also soul-crushingly hot. Without a lot going on in my life in the way of social rituals to mark the seasons, I've been drawing inwards more and more, which is a great recipe for depression. This year more than any other I wasn't feeling Halloween. I find it interesting that many of my friends have said the same thing. I had sixteen (16) Halloween-related party invitations over a two-week span, but it was an effort to even contemplate going out. We made it to one nearby party last Saturday. One of the folks on my friends list has a neat Halloween tradition; send her your mailing address and design preferences (spiders, bats, etc.) and she sends you a handmade Halloween card.  I sent my address less than a week ago, and holy cow - I got a card!  I had it sent to my work address, because it's nice to have some personal cheer in the cube ( Read more... )
