This year more than any other I wasn't feeling Halloween. I find it interesting that many of my friends have said the same thing. I had sixteen (16) Halloween-related party invitations over a two-week span, but it was an effort to even contemplate going out. We made it to one nearby party last Saturday. It was nice to see friends, but the whole thing took an effort of will. After just over an hour we went home to gratefully pass out.
For me and most of my friends, Halloween is like Christmas Part I. Costumes aren't an issue. We can reach into a few drawers and closets and throw together a respectable costume and be out the door in maybe 20 minutes. In my case most of that goes into
hair and makeup.
Because of the India audit, I canceled the Halloween party at work. That wasn't a huge wrench. People appreciate my Halloween parties, but I can only count on our UNC ops manager and our Lithuanian payroll manager to bother dressing up at the best of times, and this year we're all exhausted from the acquisition fallout and the relentless barrage of audits.
I worked at home on Halloween morning, then came in for 4PM meeting and worked until nearly 7PM. Most of the staff had bailed by the time I arrived, probably to get home in time to take their kids trick-or-treating. There were Halloween doughnuts left over and a bowl of huge candy bars. Our Lithuanian fashion plate was wearing one of her cutting edge business suits, but was sporting a pair of eyeballs on stalks and a bounce in her step. Those small gestures were enough to make me happy. Five more parties on the calendar tonight, but we're done. Normally I'd be depressed about missing Halloween Actual, but this year seemed to be the one to recharge.
