It has been a rough, rainy April, with no sign of improvement for May. I'm really glad I live on a hill. This article shows some pictures from just across the river, and downriver near where Fancy lives. We are expecting another 40-60 mm before Sunday. Today felt like spring, which is very very wrong for February in Ottawa. I actually went for a little walk, wearing a dress (I'm a pants person in winter) and canvas shoes - no coat.

Spring is coming. I know this not because of the bizarre weather but because crews started blasting the ice on the river outside my office.

It should. It was -24 this morning (-28 with wind chill), and I understand that translates to -11F. That's the coldest it has been all winter. I bundled up in a warmer coat for my walk to work and got a bit overheated. Walking between buildings for meetings, I didn't even bother zipping up my coat or using boots, hat and mitts. Everyone seems to be suffering with winter weather. Apparently it's a problem here, too. I got up from my desk at one point and there was no snow, but by the time I got part-way across the building, everything outside was hidden in blowing snow squalls. The local bus to my office, which is whimsical at the best of times, was missing in action today. I waited for my first bus for a bit, then decided it would be faster to walk the eight blocks or so to my next bus. When I got there, a large crowd had already been waiting for about a half an hour. It seems like a good time to post pictures from this weekend. These were taken up the street from my house. On Saturday, it was strange to drive by as a bunch of kids played frisbee in front of one snowman, whil another kid and his mom worked on the snow woman.
