Would love my flist's opinions here. I'm trying to pare down my syllabus so that I can get to the Civil War in my US to 1877 class. I usually only get the secession of Fort Sumter, but I'd like to get all the way to Lincoln's assassination. I assigned a book on the Civil War, so it's a must on the syllabus. Don't use the book Traditions and Encounters, Brief ever again. You don't like the way it fails to contextualize information, and you don't like the way it crams everything about a country into one chapter. Persia is a great example.
