Leer en castellano rioplatense es reconfortante y me entretiene analizar el uso del lenguaje pero esperaba más de Benedetti, supongo que sin razón ya que ideas interesantes también hay, como en un su poesia pero lo que yo le pido a una novela es personajes, emociones y conflictos.

To be perfectly honest, Dickens' style is not to my cup of tea but he has his moments of greatness (in a book this long, on the other hand, it would be hard not to). A hilarious take on all vampire clichés, half hilarious, half heartbreaking. I can’t say it’s anywhere near ‘Unspoken’ or ‘Liar’ in quality but it isn’t a comedy either. ‘The Summer Before I Met You’ is Kami’s story, even though it is told through Liz who ran the fateful summer cricket camp. And it’s very similar in style to the novel itself. That’s to say, witty, sassy and fun.  Just lovely.

Protagonist is super annoying brat who is ‘sensitive’, which was the Romantic take of EMO teenagers.  Being now almost done with Middlemarch, I can say that Eliot can write but this was boring and hard to finish and the resources and plots that a prescient character offer were completely wasted in making the situation more tragic. Probably the shortest book I have read in a long time. Not that it’s that short, literally, but it felt that way because I could neither stop reading nor want to. It’s the first in a trilogy and ends in an appropriately intriguing place. SRB’s style and plotting have both improved since The Demon trilogy and the sense of humour is here ( Read more... )
