“The Lifted Veil” by George Eliot (Mary Anne Evans) *U*

Protagonist is super annoying brat who is ‘sensitive’, which was the Romantic take of EMO teenagers.  Being now almost done with Middlemarch, I can say that Eliot can write but this was boring and hard to finish and the resources and plots that a prescient character offer were completely wasted in making the situation more tragic. Except, it’s hard to feel bad for a guy who knows what he is going into and goes anyway.
