When is a good time to start looking for and contacting Doulas?

Im 18 weeks tomorrow and an overplanner so I really want to start contacting the three that are in my area but hubby feels like Im rushing into it as they are not health care providers.

Well great. I find a doula who will accept me for free as long as she can bring her student to shadow, but now I find out that UTMB will only allow 2 support persons in the room including doulas. I had originally planned for my husband, doulas, mom, and mom in law to be with me. Now i'm forced to choose :(

I'm so excited! I'm getting a Doula! I didn't know they could be used for "non-super-crunchy" births so I hadn't looked into it.
