There's been so much going on since the beginning of the year. January and February are always incredibly busy months, and 2011 is no exception.

The pulled pork is ready for the potluck tomorrow. I did the very best I could to de-fat it, picking away every bit that I could by hand and pressing it between paper towels, but tofu it ain't.

I have puttanesca sauce simmering downstairs in the crockpot. The house smells oh-so-savory. :) It will become bastard puttanesca when I add meatballs to it later, but despite dubious authenticity, it'll taste pretty darned good.

I generally prefer to cook during the winter months. Here in the deep South, it just gets too hot in summer to prepare anything fancier than something like gazpacho or pasta salad.

I have made a double batch of the sun-dried tomato hummus to take over to my sister's tomorrow for my niece's birthday celebration. I added a bit more lemon juice than the recipe called for because it wasn't quite as smooth as I thought it should be. We shall see how it turns out.

So, the pieThe recipe didn't say squat about needing a deep-dish crust. I now know. Fortunately, I had two regular crusts, and it worked out fine. Speaking of crusts, I could not find the Oronoque pie crusts to save my life. I went to Publix, I went to the Fresh Market, and I went to Harry's Farmer's Market. No luck.
