Birthday was good. Got a haircut. Did some homewares op-shopping (didn't find anything, Q got a bit o glassware). Made a vegetarian moussaka. Finally assembled my Ikea-mod-wardrobe [1]. Hm, was about to post about the weekend and then realised it was Thursday already.

Friday night we went to see some live music.  A friend's ex-schoolmates were playing and he was kinda curious.  Saw 3 new bands (and quite enjoyed each of them).  And cos we got there when they were supposed to start, we had a spare hour before they actually started ( Read more... )

Hm.  Just missed submission deadline for a July conference in Barcelona.  And it coulda fit in nicely with a wedding in London around then too... oh well...

1. Rather more impressed with hotel here.  Outside and lobby just as posh as the Beijing International, plus had comfy armchairs/couches/coffee tables in the lobby to wait/hang out at, and our room was rather posher.  But then discovered the shower pressure was crap AND the shower floor ever so slightly tilted away from the drain so ( Read more... )

1. Our tour guide in Beijing taught us how to write China (Chung Kuo or Zhong Guo) in Chinese characters: 中国 (1, 2, 3, emperor, jade, country, um...something else...middle);
   
2. Me and Dad were the only two people on our "tour".  It's the end of the tourist season, so less crowds and things - nice;

Ok. Didn't go out last night. Was too late after I managed to catch up on friends-list! And was a bit trashed as well as a bit tired. So went to bed. Somehow had not managed to change weekday alarm on phone, so that went off at 7:30. Switched it off and then at 8:30 Dell called about "Hi, I'm calling to arrange delivery of Your Laptop"!!!
