Went hiking yesterday in the snow with Jimmy, Alessandra, Dave, and Francesco. The first half was really fun, but on the way back both the boys got tired and wanted to eat and nap, and Francesco got pretty cold, so the last 15 minutes were just a crying mess. Just finished eating my lunch of hot dogs cooked on the fire in the fireplace, bread warmed on the fire, and fruits and veggies. Mmm fireplace cookin'. However, we are moving through our wood at an alarming rate. That's concerning. Shaws had some wood, but it was not cheap. I suppose I now need to figure out how to buy some in bulk. Well, still no power and 53 degrees inside. Hopefully the basement will help keep things warm - glad to live in a modern house with insulation! Jimmy is sleeping with 3 blankets and 2 sleepers on, plus I left his wool socks on (with the cotton liner socks). He should be warm enough, if not I'm sure he'll end up in our bed again tonight. Well, it was a pretty good day. The glaciers in my backyard have almost completely receded, I was even able to get to the swing set this morning! The first crocuses have bloomed! And I saw a snowdrop. Yay! Jimmy and I went for a walk outside twice today. He doesn't want to touch anything - it's so funny. At least I have gotten him ( Read more... )

Ugh. As much as I long for spring, I am SO not happy the snow turned to rain today. You'd think, hey, it's raining, that means the snow melts, right? WRONG! In New England, it turns into a nasty, slushy mess that traps the rain and just about guarantees 3 inches of ice come nightfall and freezing temperatures.
