rainbows and flowers

I am taking a quick break from painting more illustrations (deadline Tuesday!) to eat tuna on a rice cake (with my cat staring at my back so pathetically and adorably...) and my favourite snack of dried pineapple, and share a bit of new news.

Now what news to share...?

Oh! I was just reading (er, looking at...) Higuchi Tachibana's blog and I saw a picture of some jasmine flowers, which set off the following train of thought: "I have a Jasmine plant! Or I did... hey, what happened to that thing after I got it for free from work since it was so close to dead??" So I ran off to check on it, where it had been set in the corner of the dining room with other houseplants and then forgotten about because it was on a lower level than most of them... and whoa!!! It had all these new shoots and green leaves!! And the dirt was still moist, after I'd completely forgotten about it for at least a week!! Shocking. So I guess I have a live Jasmine plant after all :D Now if I can just keep it alive now that I've remembered I have it... I think its original problem when I got it from work was over-watering. Or not enough light. Or under-watering. It could've been all three, really. Maybe I'll find a nice spot for it outside for the summer.

I think I've got more flowers forming on my croton too. And my orchid's still got the flowers from a couple months ago, and is opening up new buds on the ends of the flower-spikes. Amazing. I guess they need that kind of long-lived-flowers when they're waiting for juuuust the right bug to come along and pollinate them. Crazy.

Oh, to continue the plant-geeking... one of the avocado pits has a root! Did I mention this before? Don't recall... but anyway, it does. Pretty cool. I think the other two aren't getting enough sun (they're in a different location). I forgot I don't have much sunlight in my room during summer, because there's a big ol' maple right above this corner of the house and once it gets leaves it's pretty much all shade. Except at sunset (then I get sparkly pink sunlight coming straight through the window!) Oh, which reminds me of something else... my other favourite geek-topic, hee!!

Ok, so the other day the final volume of VB Rose came out in Japan, and also the VBR art book (which double_dear so kindly ordered a copy of for me♥♥♥), and I was thinking that Hidaka-sensei's birthday is coming up soon!, so I got myself all hyped again and decided to read 7Hate again! (I can't believe it's still another five months till the next volume is out here! aaaaaaaahhhhhghhgh!) And while reading a MAGICAL thing happened! The sun was going down, and I was laying on my side reading in my room, and as the light hit the cups I have avocados trying to grow in, it cast a rainbow!! right on the pages of the book! right on Maki's face, in fact!!! Hahahaha. It was right after when Honjo was telling him to protect Kazuha. It only lasted a few minutes, and was starting to fade when Dark Mizushima arrived... ehehehe. Ah, it was so cool. So lovely~ But man. That volume. Every time I read it, I get close to the end and start thinking, "Aww, this isn't such a bad place to end it... it'll be hard but I can survive the five-month wait for 8Hate..." and then BAM! There's Saki. Gahhh!!

And... I don't know what else to say right now. My mind went flying off into rainbow-Maki-land and I should probably end this and get back to painting... Well, it was nice chatting with (at) y'all again!
