With respect to session expiration and the Remember me option, FAQ 159 says:
LiveJournal expires sessions after a period of inactivity. If you enabled the Remember me option, your session expires after 60 days of inactivity. Otherwise, your session expires after 36 hours of inactivity.

In addition to all the troubleshooting steps presented in FAQ 162, there is one possibility that hasn't been specifically addressed: the "Allow for session" cookie permission setting. Using the "Bind to IP Address" option does not work if your IP address changes regularly (such as every time you make a new connection to your ISP). If you have selected this option and cannot remain logged in, unselecting it may help.
