Just finished... finally. It was AMAZING.

Now reading: People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks - I've only read the first chapter or so of this one, but holy crap is it amazing. An Australian rare book conservator goes to Sarajevo to study and conserve an illuminated Hebrew manuscript. In the first few pages she's studying the book for the first time. Now... I have no problem with this, but I just don't see how it has anything to do with the story. And now the religious-right nutbags are going to be even more riled up about banning the books.

I have never voluntarily read a romance novel. I read Jane Eyre for my seventh-grade English class. It was all right, but really slow. I read a few for my undergrad English classes: One was Jane Austen's Mansfield Park which was well written and kind of cute. I'm not a big fan of Austen. This was my first step into inspirational fiction, and also into chick lit. I was actually surprised how much I liked it. I hate hate hate being preached at, but the religious parts of the book were obviously part of the characters' personalities. I don't have to agree with the characters, or even the author, to enjoy a book. So. Short plot summary ( Read more... )
