Been knitting a Santa hat the last couple of days. Chunky yarn and an easy pattern (1x1 ribbing for the brim, and all knit stitch for the body), so it's been knitting up quickly. Unfortunately the pattern underestimated how much yarn I'd need, so I'll have to run down to Dupont to get another skein of the red for the body so I can finish it. Might ( Read more... )

The husband and I took off early (well, I took off early; he was already on leave for the day) and went to see The Lost City. It was a delightful rom com, with just enough occasional off color jokes to add some spice but not put it into raunchy territory (i.e., her romance novel in the movie is "The Lost City of D"). Moonfall was a hot mess, in the best, cheesy way. The plot had huge holes, a couple actors were really bad, several were very good, and it was just all over the place. Loved it. Been plowing through the Wheel of Time book series - up to book four now. I had the first three in paperback format, but at some point in 2018 (?) I lost the first one on a plane, and gave up on restarting it until the TV series came out. I enjoyed the TV series, I get why they made the changes they did, and I look forward to the next season. Went to see Spider-man on Friday and today. I finally gave in and signed up for Regal Unlimited, which the husband has had for a couple of years. It ends up paying for itself, given the number of movies we see most months, so there ya go. The husband asked for a night out Tuesday, so we went to see the new Ghostbusters: Afterlife. I enjoyed it a lot. Yes, it didn't have the Akroyd/Murray banter like the original, but it was still a fun family film in 2021. I'd watch it again. The husband won tickets to an advance showing of West Side Story for this evening (it hits theaters tomorrow). It was at a large mall on the opposite side of DC from where we live, but we trekked over, found parking, and then found a very long line waiting to get into the theater (inside, thankfully). The husband and I took the day off to putz about and to see The Eternals on opening day. We both really enjoyed the film. It was more about the interpersonal relations between these characters who have known each other for 7,000 plus years, with enough action thrown in to keep it fun, than the typical Marvel movie, which I found refreshing. Not a ton going on right now. We did make a last minute decision to get out of the house and see Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins, which was more fun and slightly less cheesy than I expected.
