I have a problem when referring to the race of man and of Faerie when writing of each and that is - how to do so. When I write in Gaelic, I use Daoine Sìth, Daoine Beaga (little people) or Sluagh Eile (Other Folk) for those of Faerie and in English, I use the word 'fey' or, perhaps, Otherfolk. rarely do I use the word Elf. This is for Margaret - I found this tale today in the book Folk Tales and Fairy Lore collected by James MacDougall (1910). I am not at all sure what to make of the ending, it seems a harsh return for a show of kindness.

I can't rightly say that the river ran backwards, I can't say that it didn't, but the Seelawn Pond at the top of Benny Hill flooded all the way up to the Tavashack caverns.
