His smile broadened, the universe tilted and Chloe cried out as he rose to his knees. His large, impossibly strong hands held her effortlessly, kept her joined with him, as he gently lowered her to her back.

Chloe clung to him as pleasure sparked hotter, intensified at the smooth movement and tears welled up, and then ran freely from her eyes as her senses reeled.

“Can you feel what your love does to me Chloe?” His voice was a low murmur as he cradled the back of her neck with one large hand.

She was helpless to the sensations that surged through her as the world tinted itself green, edged itself with gilt and shadow as raw energy inundated her, flowed out of her in breathtaking pulses.

It was beyond ecstasy; this frightening and exhilarating power that made the very cells of her body vibrate in an overwhelming harmony of emerald and gold and she cried out again as he shifted and covered her with his body.

“You make me strong.”

She was freefalling in bliss as he moved slowly within her, prolonging her clenching shivers with his slow measured thrusts.

The brilliant green of his eyes darkened, as he watched her shudder beneath him and his voice was roughed, gravelly with emotion as he whispered, “You are so beautiful.”

His hips began to stutter as he kissed away the kryptonite seasoned moisture that jeweled her lashes, licked at the tears that lingered on her cheeks.

He groaned and lowered his head, soft mouth kissing, sharp teeth scraping at her shoulder, murmuring over and over, “You…  I…  Love… Chloe.”

And she held him as he trembled, whispered his name into his hair as he shuddered his thick warm releases deep inside her.

He panted against her shoulder for a moment then rolled off her, and his laugh of pure joy echoed around the cave as he sprawled out on his back beside her.

Then he shifted to his side and propped himself up on one arm, resting his head in his hand and smiled as he reached for her with his free hand and tugged her closer.

“I love you,” he said as he swept her up in his arms and stood. He laughed again and kissed her soundly as he twirled her around.

“It’s gone!” He shouted and the universe continued to spin even when he set her on her feet. He rested his cheek against the top of her head. “It’s gone,” he whispered.

Chloe closed her eyes as she leaned against him, trying to catch her breath. So much had happened, and so intoxicatingly fast, without the solid feel of him to anchor her, she wasn’t sure which way was up.

She smiled against his chest. Wasn’t that always the way she felt around Clark?

He hugged her tightly, then gently cradled her head in his large hands and carefully tilted her face towards his. He smiled crookedly down at her.

“I wanted to save you, but you saved me.”

Chloe blinked up at him and opened her mouth to speak, but he silenced her with a shift of his thumb over her lips.

Her flash of annoyance fled swiftly as he frowned and looked around the cave. His eyes narrowed and Chloe followed his gaze to the painting on the wall and swallowed hard.

The colors seemed brighter, the blacks and greens vivid shimmering strokes against the uneven rock.

“We must leave,” he said abruptly, dropping his hands and wrapping his arms around her. He lifted her easily and turned towards the cave entrance.

Suddenly he cried out and stumbled, falling to his knees. Chloe slid from his arms and watched in horror as he rocked back on his heels and threw his head back and screamed as concentrated blue fire burst unevenly from his skin and etched out a symbol she recognized instantly.

His eyes sought hers as the branding fire died down as swiftly as it appeared, and despite the clear pain in his brilliant green eyes, he smiled at her.

“Thank you,” he said simply.

And as he toppled over on top of her, Chloe cried out.

“Clark!”
