am has been in "survival mode". The dude's on auto-pilot, surviving and keeping on keeping on, because he's trying to help Dean heal. Doesn't matter what SAM wants - it's really all about Dean being not broken anymore.

Exactly!

And here is the thing - you know how we've been complaining that we never see how Sam is dealing with any of it? Not in season 2, 3 or 4? Well, I realized something as I re-read this post - the reason we didn't get to see it is because he didn't deal. There was nothing for us to see because Sam did not deal with any of it. Is it any wonder that he turned to drugs...err....demon blood?

So Dean never learned how to get his younger brother to really talk to him, because he was so focused on keeping Sam safe.Yes. And also I think that Sam when he was younger was the one who'd always talk, as any younger brother, would bug the crap out of Dean until Dean told him if something was bothering him. Remember in Fresh Blood what Sam said? He watched Dean since he was little, Sam knows Dean a lot better ( ... )

Yeah, if Dean doesn't deal well with bad things happening, Sam just doesn't deal. When John died, he admitted that he's not ok, but then he focused all his energy on trying to help Dean deal with it. Meanwhile who was watching out for Sam? Sam thing in season 3. He was so focused on saving Dean and trying to get Dean to even want to be saved. This season - well, we already talked about this more than once. *sighs* My heart aches for him, honestly. Just...oh Sammy.

I've said it before, but Dean just couldn't relate to this 'new' Sam. Sam changed over the last summer and Dean still tried to act as if he hadn't. He tried to act like the big brother and expected Sam to fall in line and act like the younger brother.

he is doing this FOR Dean, hello people

EXACTLY!!!!!

I know Dean never asked him to and Dean doesnt approve of what he is doing but all Sam doing this for Dean
Yeah, but then Sam never asked Dean to make the deal to bring him back and Sam sure as hell didn't approve of Dean selling his soul for him. "Round and round the Winchesters go", right? *sighs ( ... )

so true, I said that to someone the other day, Sam never asked Dean to bring him back, Dean started alll of this!

yeah I agree so so so much Sam doesnt want Dean's help, its to late, to much has happened. its really so heartbreaking and all the Sam and Jared hate hurts my head, and my heart. I mean I get it I can understand why people see things from Dean POV because thats what we have had most of this season but Sam is suffering so so much and he really is the one that needs the sympathy far more the Dean

Im curious about what Castiel and his crew are up to by letting Sam go, but Im glad they did because that detox was not helping anyone,
I hope Kripke will fix things, I dont know if I can handle another season of hardcore Sam and Jared hate like this one, its exhausting

Sam broke my heart so much when he asked Dean to trust him just once and Dean still couldnt do it D:

Exactly. I said the same thing. I usually hate it when either of the boys are blaming themselves for all the bad things going on in the world, but in this case it really IS Dean's fault. I don't blame him for breaking the first seal, 'cause really, aside apparently from John, who could have survived that much time in hell and not break? But Dean would not have been in hell to break that seal if he didn't sell him soul. He didn't think about what it would do to Sam. He couldn't let go, couldn't live without Sam and Sam was the one to pay the price. When Sam died, he was completely human. He didn't have to deal with any of this crap. Dean's responsible for it. Obviously he did it out love, I get that. But he did the exact same thing Sam is doing now (sacrificing himself for his brother) but he's judging Sam for it ( ... )

He doesn't feel helpless or like everyone's favourite plaything.

Oooooh, yes, very good point. Watching so many people die around him, people he loved, I can definitely understand Sam finally wanting to do something. Especially where Dean is concerned. He managed to live through losing Dean once. And knowing that there was something he could have done to prevent his brother going to hell, Sam is not about to let history repeat itself.

Dean's not weak the way Dean takes it to mean. But really if you look at all the previous seasons, Dean falls apart, he's ready to give up and run and hide. Sam acts. Sam's pain makes me all that more determined, more about action. Probably because it's the only way he can NOT think about what's probably killing him inside.

I'm very happy you found me, these were very good points and I completely agree.

EXACTLY! Sam is not doing this just because he wants power to rule the world. He hates it. He knows it's wrong. He knows it's changing him, probably permanently into something he hates. But after watching everybody he loved die. After seeing his brother being torn to shreds when Sam could have done something to stop it, Sam is not going to let it happen again. He has a way to protect Dean and to stop the apocalypse. And he's taking it. And that's a very good analogy ( ... )
