Today we finished the whale hunting lesson. They read maybe 10 news articles and weblinks related to the topic. They were quiet and very engaged in the activity, and the couple of written responses I read were decently thoughtful. Back to college... so nervous
Completed the hunting & culture lesson with A3 today and they weren't as disinterested as I thought they were going to be, so that was good and positive. I also signed up for a free online grad class to couple with my for-credit Spanish class. The online class will give me 3 more MSDE credits towards Masters Plus 30. Today was an easy day to find positives. Today's lesson is one I was working really hard on for a week or so. It is a two part lesson in which we are examining the issues surrounding the UN Court decision against Japanese whaling in the Pacific and Southern oceans. Today my one coworker got schooled in the importance of special education teachers. Last week there was a lengthy lunch conversation in which another teacher was blasting special ed teachers as not worth their paycheck because they don't teach full schedules and have small classes. Things I am thankful for today:- My Grandma was in a good mood and lucid enough to remember funny stories from my childhood when we visited her at her assisted living today.
- Having a lovely, warm day out and about with my GF

Today a senior brought me a thank you note. As part of their English class this year, they were supposed to write a thank you note to a teacher who had an impact on their life. I didn't think I would get any as I mostly teach sophomores and freshmen, who never seem to remember you much beyond the year they have you. But I got one this year. In it ( Read more... ) -
HSA Scores & Things for which I am grateful
Today I graded the practice HSA exams that my biology students took on Monday. They weren't terrible and several people had really good scores-- 50 or more points out of 76. Not bad at all considering we haven't done any sort of review yet. It's a good base from which to build in the next two weeks ( Read more... ) -
