Today my one coworker got schooled in the importance of special education teachers. Last week there was a lengthy lunch conversation in which another teacher was blasting special ed teachers as not worth their paycheck because they don't teach full schedules and have small classes. Another guy agreed with him, more or less. Today the second guy had to cover my friends special ed inclusion class and came back and said "I was so wrong. They could offer me two times the pay, and I wouldn't want that job. It probably took her two days to put together just that one sub lesson. She has like 10 kids, but every single kid has a different reading to correspond to their actual reading level. I don't know how she does it every day." I'm always glad to see people appreciating special educators more.
Things I am thankful for today
- There was light traffic coming home from the university today, which coupled with....
- The storm held off long enough to let me ride 4 miles on my bike around the neighborhood.
- There is only one class left of my college class, and it's the final. It's one of the biggest harbingers of summer for me-- having all my nights off!
