I went to see Ocean's Thirteen yesterday and despite the unpromising trailer I've seen for it, it was actually quite fun. Better than Ocean's Twelve. Most of the characters had something amusing to do, and George Clooney & Brad Pitt made a good comic pairing. Saw The Black Dahlia this afternoon. 'Twas a film that was really digging the noirish detective theme, with atmosphere and some very lovely outfits. Josh Hartnett ('Bucky') was the lead, though, and really tried his best to act, bless 'im, but didn't get there. This marred things, along with uneven pacing. Lord of War - more of a Making A Point movie than I was expecting. Definitely serious and thought-provoking, though it has its satiric moments. Still, everything is laced with Yuri Orlov's bloody hands, metaphorically speaking as he is a successful gunrunner. I saw The Da Vinci Code tonight. Thought it was going to be 2 1/2 hours of paint drying but it wasn't at all that bad. Definitely not good - uninspiring leads, substandard pacing and story, not to mention being based on a novel not that great to start with - however, not the godawful dull I was expecting. Watched National Treasure last night. It was more enjoyable than I was expecting. The pace was quick, but not rushed, and the time watching it went by quite quickly. It's not a film that'll stretch your mind or does anything ground-breaking, but it was an entertaining popcorn movie all the same.
