Weather in lower NI has been very British over Xmas really. I'm still waiting for summer to return to be honest! I haven't been able to go to the club, it's just been too cold to bother. I got to my favourite beach today for an hour or so. I almost had it to myself. Just some illegal kai moana collecting going on by natives who should know better. I have their car rego photographed and may send to DOC. sigh. I had a quick swim in the calm flat sea at very low tide but it was rather cold I'll admit. Good to get out there again ( Read more... )

Tonight Iron Maiden are playing in Auckland. I'm not there cos the available seats left were shit. So I know this was my last chance to see them again, but a quiet night in is probably preferable. A 45min walk along a bush track at height around a few headlands to a lovely beach backed by nothing more than Pohutukawa trees, BIG ones. This is the sort of beach which epitomises North Island NZ, and I love it. If there was a road then this place would have been destroyed like all the others. That's what summer is for. Yes another load of wonderful beaches. Opoutere yesterday on a falling tide with big waves and clear water. Shame they are destroying the forest walk and changing the atmosphere. Managed to avoid the dreaded Mt Mauler by staying on the wet sand of the fallen tide ( Read more... )
