I went in for a supply run. While I was waiting to check out, I perused the boxed plants. For $9.99 they had the new Bush and Berry Babycakes Blackberry. They also had the red raspberry, whose name is escaping me. These are dwarf plants made for container culture, and everywhere else they've been advertised the price as been around $34.00 each. (

I'm looking for a good, (hopefully) attractive rain gauge that won't break the bank. A lot of the ones I'm finding are too small for my tastes, too. Five inches minimum, preferably seven is what I'm looking for and sturdy.
I found this one which is neat but a bit pricier than I'd like and not as functional as I'd want either, more than likely

Hey all! So, my new house has a pond feature with a nice little stream, and no pond plants. I've had it all cleaned out for the summer and put some goldfish in -- they seem happy and have lived several weeks now -- and the water gardens folks told me to get some pond plants to help keep the water clear

Most of the gardeners I know in the British Isles avoid using peat. We don't doubt that it's a useful material in the garden and it's still available in garden centres. But many of us believe it to be environmentally damaging. The thing is, it's a non-renewable resource and its mining has driven our peat bogs and their associated plants and insects
