Tool Question

Aug 19, 2010 13:03

Short-time lurker, first-time poster and whatnot.

Anyway, a bit of background. I am not a gardener, but my mother caught the green fever a few years ago; it makes her happy, and anything that makes her happy is good by me.

Last time I visited (she lives in a different state), she proudly showed me her collection of gardening tools... to say I was horrified would be an understatement. Dull blades with chips and rust on pretty much anything metal, splintering and broken handles on the rest of it. Her post-hole digger was missing half of one of the handles. *shudder*

Being one of those people who is a firm believer in practical gifting, I have decided to purchase as much of a complete set for her as I can afford. Now my question to those of you who have far more actual experience is this field than I: what's a good brand to shop by? Even better, is there one brand that I could just focus on exclusively, or are there different tools made better by different companies?

shopping, recommendations, tools
