Zanthoxylum simulans, Szechuan pepper

Dec 13, 2010 13:57

I just read an article in The Guardian about growing Zanthoxylum simulans, Szechuan pepper. I had no idea it is related to prickly ash. I think I could grow this in USDA Zone 7 even, or maybe I'll try keeping it in a pot. It would be so exciting to have fresh Szechuan peppercorns on hand.

If anyone has grown it I'd like to hear your experiences.

A problem: I have no idea where to find this plant. Logees doesn't have it and I'm sure my local nurseries don't either (I'd have seen it and snapped it up). Does anyone know of any good online sources for it?

shopping, vegetable: pepper, zone: usda 7
