This kitten REALLY loves broccoli!

The weather has been unseasonably warm.  There's something wrong with wearing shorts on October 20th!  Last week it did get cold enough to turn on the heat, although we haven't had a frost yet, so this helped the leaves get started.  Today I took my camera on my walk just to photograph the gorgeous foliage ( Read more... )

I just got back from my walk, during which I rescued two teeninsy-winsy frogs hopping in the road.  Normally I wouldn't touch them for fear of hurting them, but they would never have been able to hop up the curb, and faced a certain death.  Then I managed to avoid stepping on a third one who was crossing the path ( Read more... )

The Roy Rogers on the Berlin Turnpike has been closed for several months, and we have been trying to figure out what they are going to do with it.  Today it became apparent.  It will become Arbys!!  No longer will I have to drive to Champaign or Minneapolis to get my Arbys fix.  I hope they still have the kind of sandwiches I like.  (The ones on ( Read more... )

I have sad news to report today.  I had to put my last kitty, Tulip to sleep.  She was 16 years old and had gotten quite skinny lately.  For the last week she has been having quite a few "accidents" outside the litter box, and I think it was because she was too tired to go there.  It has also been taking her quite a long time to finish her food, ( Read more... )

I was sitting innocently watching TV when I heard a single noise in the chimney.  It didn't recur, so I hoped against hope that it was just something outside.  No such luck.  About an hour later I saw a bat flying into the dining room.  I jumped up and opened the front door, and it only took him about 3 minutes to find his way out ( Read more... )

Last night I went to bed and was almost asleep when Michael started yelling.  Sure enough, there was another bat in the house.  I immediately closed the bedroom door, but of course I was awake by then.  Ugh.  Michael said the bat was hurling itself against the front door, so he didn't want to go open the door because the bat was there.  He wondered ( Read more... )

Ugh, the bat did not go out on Monday, and has been in our house all week!  Michael thought he saw it go back in on Monday, and has been hearing it click for the last couple of days.  Tonight he finally saw it on top of a book case.  We opened the front door again, and this time he flew out for sure ( Read more... )
